BREAKING: Last night, bandits attacked Kauran Namoda town in Zamfara State, killing seven residents and abducting several others.

The attack has left a big town in Zamfara in grieving, with families mourning their loved ones while others are left worried about those taken away by the bandits.

The continued attacks and abductions raise serious concerns about the security situation in Zamfara State. How long will residents continue to live in fear, and what more needs to be done to stop these deadly attacks and protect innocent lives?

UPDATE: 42 people have reportedly been declared dead following the deadly bandit attack on Binnari Market in Karim Lamido LGA, Taraba State.

The attack left the community devastated, with marketers counting their losses after hours of violence. Traders had earlier said the attackers operated for about four hours without any security personnel arriving at the scene.

Farida Isiak: Facing Trial at Sharia Court for a Social Media Post

The Nigerian authorities must drop bogus charges and sham trial of journalist Farida Isiak who was arraigned before Sharia Court Division 1 Kawo Kaduna. In a rushed trial she was sentenced to 4–years in prison with an option of N1.7 million fine.

Farida Isiak, a reporter with Nagarta Radio in Kaduna, was arrested and detained around 10:00 p.m. on Monday, 20 October, by officers under the command of the Divisional Police Officer of Mararaban Jos, Usman Adamu. The situation began as a minor civil disagreement between her mother and a neighbour over a 100 naira change dispute during a sale of charcoal. Police officers initially arrested her mother and later detained her father when he went to secure her release, using their detention as leverage to force Farida to come to the police station.

When Farida arrived at the station, police officers accused her of defaming them because of a Facebook post she wrote criticizing the unlawful treatment of her parents. Even though she complied with police demands to deleted the post and apologize in hopes of securing her parents' release, officers kept her in custody and rushed her to a Sharia Court in Kawo. The presiding judge sentenced her to four years in prison or a fine of 1.75 million naira on charges of defamation, completely ignoring the initial police violations and the abusive actions that led to the incident.

Farida was released yesterday evening on bail, with the trial set to commence again on 3 November.

Clearly, police are weaponizing the judicial system to punish Farida Isiak, instead of following due process of law.

The DSS arrested him that same day.

He is now charged with terrorism. One of the seven counts against him is organizing a protest against Senator Ali Ndume of the ruling APC.

He has been in Kuje prison since July. His trial is November 13.

I unequivocally condemn the unjust arrest and farcical trial of Kaduna-based journalist Farida Isiak.

The use of the Nigeria Police Force @policeng to intimidate, arrest, and prosecute a journalist merely for expressing her views, posting her opinions, or speaking freely is an outrageous abuse of state power and a direct assault on press freedom and the fundamental right to freedom of expression.

Even more outrageous is the judicial perfidy that reportedly culminated in a judge sentencing her to four years' imprisonment on these bogus charges. What manner of justice sends a journalist to prison for exercising her constitutional right to freedom of expression?

The @PoliceNG must withdraw their support for this persecution, and the conviction must be urgently overturned through the appropriate legal process so that Farida can regain her freedom and reunite with her family without delay.

The Nigeria Police Force must stop being used as an instrument of repression and persecution. Expressing an opinion is not a crime!

This is an infant from the Al-Bayya family. The Israeli occupation bombed the chalet where his family had been displaced, and several people were killed at the site.

Today, months later, the remains of his tiny body were recovered from inside his bed… The bones of a child who should have been cradled in his mother’s arms, not found in such a heartbreaking scene after all this time.
