Viet Tan welcomes today’s adoption by the European Parliament of MEP Hannah Neumann’s landmark report on transnational repression (TNR), a strong signal that authoritarian regimes must no longer be allowed to target dissidents, journalists, and activists on European soil.
The vote comes just one week after the conference on Vietnamese transnational repression hosted by MEPs Saskia Bricmont and Jonas Sjöstedt together with Viet Tan, where victims and experts shared firsthand accounts of Hanoi’s cross-border intimidation and harassment.
Vietnamese victims of transnational repression, including journalist Le Trung Khoa, human rights lawyer Nguyen Van Dai, and activist Dang Thi Hue (Hue Nhu), were present in Strasbourg for today’s vote. Their courage and testimony have helped bring greater attention to the growing threat posed by transnational repression within the EU.
Today’s vote marks an important step toward accountability and protection for victims. Viet Tan looks forward to working with European institutions and democratic partners to ensure that no government can export repression beyond its borders with impunity.
