Few key points from Premier Explosives management guidance:

• Record order book of ₹1,569 crore, the highest in the company's history,
providing revenue visibility for the next 2–3 years.

• Management expects the order book to remain above ₹1,000 crore as new defence orders continue to come in.

• FY27 revenue guidance of ₹600–700 crore with an EBITDA margin of 15–20%.

• Export revenue is expected to reach around ₹200 crore in FY27.

• New Andhra Pradesh manufacturing facility is under discussion. Once land is finalized, the plant is expected to be operational in 1–1.5 years.

• Odisha project is progressing in phases and is expected to take around 4–5 years.

• Management said the company continues to be a single-source supplier to DRDO for several products.

• Management believes setting up an explosives manufacturing facility takes at least 5 years, creating high entry barriers for new players.

• Growth is expected from execution of delayed orders, improving raw material availability, and continued demand from the defence sector.

⭐️ 1959–1960s The groundwork:

Government committees found that foreign drug companies dominated India’s pharmaceutical market and medicine prices were high.

⭐️ 1970 The turning point:

Under PM Indira Gandhi, India passed the Patents Act, 1970, replacing pharmaceutical product patents with process patents.

⭐️ 1970s–1990s Generic industry grows:

Indian companies could legally manufacture the same medicine through alternative processes. Competition expanded and prices fell sharply.

⭐️ 1995–2005 Global expansion: India joined the World Trade Organization and became a major global supplier of affordable generic medicines, while transitioning to the TRIPS patent regime.

⭐️ 2005 – Today Generics + price controls:

India restored pharmaceutical product patents for new inventions but retained important legal safeguards, while the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority regulates prices of essential medicines.

💡Political credit: The biggest credit for the foundational shift generally goes to Indira Gandhi’s government, because the 1970 patent reform created the policy environment in which India’s low-cost generic medicine industry developed.
