Isiolo County today took an important step toward unlocking its economic potential after hosting a high-level Public–Private Partnership (PPP) Forum in collaboration with the Frontier Counties Development Council (FCDC). The meeting was supported by the FCDC #RANGE Program, funded by the @NLinKenya Embassy of Kenya, which continues to champion resilience, growth, and sustainable economic development across the frontier counties.
The forum brought together government leaders, business owners, investors, hoteliers, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce, community organizations, and County officials— all united by a shared goal to shape a sustainable, investment-ready, and inclusive future for Isiolo County.
Stakeholders engaged in open and solution-oriented discussions around collective responsibility and the need for close cooperation between the public sector, private sector, and the community. The sentiment throughout the forum was clear: Isiolo’s development must be anchored in the voices, priorities, and aspirations of its people. A major highlight of the day was the recognition of the completed Isiolo International Abattoir, a transformative flagship project that is expected to uplift livelihoods, promote value-addition, and stimulate the region’s livestock-driven economy.
CECM Tourism, Trade and Cooperative Development, Lawrence Mwongela, emphasized the importance of authentic public engagement, noting that development decisions must reflect the needs and realities of local communities. Also present were CO Tourism Batula Maalim, CO Trade Nura Diba, and a wide network of business partners and investors committed to driving Isiolo’s economic growth.
In his remarks, CECM Mwongela spoke on the urgency of embracing PPPs, especially at a time when challenges such as infrastructure deficits and climate pressures increasingly outpace public resources. He outlined key reasons why PPPs remain essential today: shared risk and shared reward, the ability to scale innovation by combining private-sector agility with public oversight, and the potential to spur economic growth through job creation, improved services, and increased investment.
The workshop focused on identifying concrete investment opportunities that align public goals with private capital, showcasing successful PPP models that can be adapted within Isiolo, and strengthening networks among investors, policymakers, and industry leaders. Participants engaged in interactive sessions, case studies, and discussions aimed at translating ideas into actionable partnerships. The CECM urged everyone to actively contribute insights, ask questions, and identify areas where they can support Isiolo’s next wave of transformative development.
The forum reaffirmed that when public purpose and private innovation come together, communities move forward. Through collaboration, shared commitment, and continued support from partners such as the @FCDCKenya #RANGE program and the Netherlands Embassy, Isiolo County continues to position itself for a resilient and prosperous future driven by strategic partnerships.
Program Manager #Range program Saiyana Lembara said the private sector can help achieve its mission by contributing its voice, ability to innovate, and network with key players to actualize change.
