Seeing this whilst listening to Tory & SNP MPs push for more oil drilling in the North sea.
The impact of the climate crisis is already here. Unprecedented temperatures and weather extremes - it will only get worse if we don’t course correct.
Denying science and denying reality.
If you're at SNP Conference on Sunday, we've got a brilliant line up at our panel on how the SNP can help make a fair North Sea transition a reality, including the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Action and Energy. Details 👇- come along for a timely & vital discussion & brekkie 🥐
Nick Robinson on @BBCr4today was wrong to suggest that pumping more oil & gas from the North Sea would lower bills, something even former Tory Energy Secretaries have accepted. We’ve burned most of the gas & export the vast majority of the oil (& oil is basically what’s left)…
Dale Vince’s latest bright idea — giving even more subsidies to oil and gas giants and "optimising" production — is about as sensible as his plan to mass produce gas from grass. Let's discuss!

Interested in the new UK Gov guidance on assessing new oil and gas projects? Check out this thread 🧵👇. Perhaps most importantly "Assertions in the press that this makes it more likely that the Rosebank oil field will go ahead are wrong & wishful thinking from the industry."
The UK gov has just published new guidance for environmental impact assessments for oil & gas projects. Despite reports/industry spin, it includes a genuinely robust, credible approach to assessing the emissions caused by burning oil & gas. 🧵

It is absolutely indefensible that profits from Scotland’s oil and gas reserves could flow to a company linked to human rights violations in Palestine.
We must continue to oppose Rosebank for both climate & human rights reasons.

@FutureEconScot@scotlibdems@MiriamBrett@amcarmichaelMP @DominicMHinde It was great to explore ways we can move past vague rhetoric on jobs and the transition and deliver interventions that support workers and communities.
Great discussion at Uplift & @FutureEconScot event on securing a fair North Sea transition, at the @scotlibdems conference in Inverness. Thanks to panel @MiriamBrett@amcarmichaelMP @DominicMHinde and everyone that attended & asked excellent questions!
On Saturday we will be co-hosting an event with Uplift at the @scotlibdems conference exploring what action is needed to ensure the North Sea transition is fair and managed
Speakers include @amcarmichaelMP, @DominicMHinde, and @IRMercer
Important🧵digging into the UK's oil & gas licensing regime & energy security. Scottish Labour have an opportunity to champion the clean energy agenda ahead of 2026, by embracing the transition to renewables & calling for proper transition planning for workers & communities
These comments from @AnasSarwar suggest a misunderstanding of both the UK's oil & gas licensing regime as well as a failure to grasp how little we can rely on North Sea oil companies to provide domestic energy security:

Looking forward to taking part in this @FutureEconScot and Uplift panel on Saturday at the @scotlibdems conference in Inverness. We will explore what action is needed to ensure the North Sea transition is fair and managed, with @MiriamBrett@amcarmichaelMP and @DominicMHinde
A brilliant discussion at Uplift’s fringe at #ScotLab25. Huge thanks to @MonicaLennon7 for chairing a lively debate about the challenges and opportunities of delivering a fair transition away from oil and gas and thanks to our speakers @RozFoyer@Carthyanna1@ewangibbs@Torcuil
Yesterday an urgent question was granted on the Rosebank & Jackdaw oil fields.
Members of the Climate APPG contributed to this debate, showing that developing these new fields is not in the public interest, won’t protect workers, deliver energy security, or meet climate goals.
Politicians have long known Grangemouth oil refinery was threatened with closure.
They have sat on their hands, allowing Petroineos to get away with this injustice.
These workers have the skills + experience to lead a fair + fast energy transition.
If you’re at @ScottishLabour Conference next week then come along to Uplift’s fringe on how to deliver a transition to renewables that supports workers and communities. It’s early but there will be 🥐 and an amazing panel @MonicaLennon7@Torcuil@ewangibbs@RozFoyer@Carthyanna1
