On Christmas Day last year, Maryka died under suspicious circumstances in her apartment. Her husband, who was present all day, is under investigation after overseas forensic experts and a Cape Town pathologist highlighted evidence of foul play, ruling out a suicide. It is alleged that Maryka endured years of physical and emotional abuse, with photos and messages documenting the violence.
