#L204Discussion I really enjoy the use of twitter in this class. It gives the option for me to write down my thoughts in real time while reading and also allow us to easily discuss with classmates. Its a cool use of a modern tool and is pretty efficient in connecting the class.
#SummerReadingList I've gained an appreciation for short stories from earlier this semester. I think the simplicity and creative aspect of the stories are compelling. I'm going to look into getting a collection to enjoy over the summer. I like the idea of a bunch of small stories
@KentBell20 I have however read The Hobbit. O would definitely recommend it. If you do end up reading it, throw any knowledge you have from the films out the window. The difference between the two mediums are night and day. One of the worst adaptations of a classic story.
I admire this comic's use of female roles and making them major proponents of the storyline. The rising of women to topple the Wakandan patriarchy and taking the reigns in their own protection is a powerful message in this story. This seems like a unique comic #L204Discussion
@KentBell20 I agree. In the film, the ending implies Wakanda will use their resources to empower and protect the descendants of Africa and create a new future for them. This was Killmongers goal in the end but he was more vengeful about it.
#L204Discussion This is my first time seriously reading comic books and I've got to say I've grown to respect this medium and enjoy the combination of art and dialogue. It feels nostalgic even though I never had any experiences prior.
#BlackPantherHistory the cultural significance of a black super hero being respected and shown as equally powerful to traditional superheroes is super impactful today. The Black Panther narrative is unique and important to discussion because of the historical context in Africa.
I never really heard of Black Panther before the movie came out. I'm glad to know there is rich lore and awesome stories behind this character. I'm excited to learn more and read these comics in this course. #L204Discussion
@L204Luke I found it very compelling and surprisingly deep for a comic book medium. Your comment about the age dynamic over the course of the story also pulled me in to reading more of the book
Its an interesting concept but I find the different orientations of images and sloppy hand writing more distracting than compelling. I understand why but I'm unsure if it is the right way to engage readers. #Kamikaze
#L204Discussion The Kamikaze uses a lot of close up shots of emotion and personal focus. This is a common form of depiction in Japanese art and anime. I agree with the statement in class that this comic mixes Western and Eastern style.
#E4Idea My plan is to capture themes of The Great Gatsby by painting vivid scenes from the story. The narrative uses a lot of imagery and I think it lends itself to a lot of different interpretations.
I ignorantly came into this comic book section of this course assuming all comics were based around action or superhero. I'm glad to learn comics can be a medium for serious discussion too. #L204Discussiob
#SUS I can see why Pop would bottle all that emotion up from his experience with Richie. It's such a terrible circumstance that is another example of unfair situations the characters of this story are put in. Richie's life was so cruel but I'm glad Pop was there for him.
@samkrausIU I think this is the truth. I support this by Leonie's dream of drowning and trying to push the kids and Michael up. That scene represents the amount of effort she can give and the choices she has to make.
#SUS Mam just comes right out and spells the situation for us when JoJo says Leonie hates him. "No, she loves you..... her love for Michael-well, it gets in the way."
#SUS I find this story's supernatural and ghostly nature oddly comforting. Mam appears so calm in the face of death and there seems to be logical steps to passing away. I know it could be a negative situation (ex Richie) but dying seems comforting for relatives left behind.
#Leonie I can relate to Leonie's reaction of laughing at Big Josephs hatred and the whole situation. Sometimes in life you literally can't comprehend or understand such absurdity and disgust from people and can only laugh at it all.
