I think that the isolationism of Wakanda is a direct response to the history of Africa. Historically Africa has been used for its resources and people by other parts of the world. Wakanda does not want this to happen so it guards itself from the world. #L204

@L204Evan I enjoyed how Persepolis portrayed people on both sides of the Iranian revolution as looking the same because to the eyes of a child it would seem as if the conflict was just grown ups fighting.

@L204Luke I think that Kamikaze is a very interesting story because it forces the reader to empathize with the Japanese in WW2 which is often not done. This graphic novel shows that there were humans on both sides of the war.

@IUtclawren In high school we read a graphic novel called Maus which is about the Holocaust except the Jews are portrayed as mice and the Nazis are portrayed as cats. It was very well written and even told the story non linearly. Graphic novels can be very moving.

@samkrausIU I also think it was really cool how the comic books and movie dealt with the theme of Afrofuturism. Often in science fiction the characters are predominantly white so it is refreshing to see people of color in these roles.

@samkrausIU I saw the movie and i thought it was excellent. It was a great Marvel movie but even if it wasn’t a part of the MCU it would have been a great standalone movie

@samkrausIU I think that this was inevitable due to Leonie’s treatment of her children. Her kids need someone to take care of them and i don’t think that Leonie has shown that ability. I feel sorry that Leonie has lost her kids emotionally.

@wstatzL204 I think that the experience that Jojo had with the cop is a part of his transition from a boy to a man. He has to learn that America has been hostile to African Americans and that hostility is still apparent in society

@DAmbrose204 I think that Big Joseph’s attitude towards the family is deeply rooted in his views on race. It’s very depressing to see a grandparent treating their grandkids that way.

I think that Kayla might have some of the magic that Leonie has. Her vision of birds is probably an effect of her magic taking hold. Maybe the birds are symbolic of something?

@beef_supreme_75 I definitely felt like Michael deserved more sympathy after we discovered that he had been involved in that explosion. He is definitely more sympathetic than Leonie in my opinion.
