Finally published! Pirsoniales (Stramenopiles) is a poorly studied order of marine parasites of diatoms with unique life cycle. We have described 5 new genera and species, all of them are predatory flagellates feeding on diverse eukaryotic prey https://t.co/T4CFl81hnf (1/7)
#Squidtember just keeps on giving with some new #deepsea vision of 𝘐𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴.
Hot on the tentacles of our last post 𝘔𝘢𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘢 this 'Whip-lash' squid graced our cameras at 1000 metres deep in the Tonga Trench.

@Soritacea @DSBSoc Thank you!!! Yes, I think there are many similar 'domes' with or without spicules, & many of them actually fall outside Crithionina, they're something else. There's no taxonomically coherent Crithionina either... As always, there's a very rich ground for further research :):)
Artist Ivan Voltski @IVoltski highlights in his work deep-sea #protist diversity. His art is largely influenced by his background in taxonomy of #foraminifera, and his vision reflected through abstract wave patterns and seascape photography.
