"Betapipol good morning.
I’ve come today with a very disturbing situation. Two days ago I was in a taxi with my younger brother heading to St Luke. We encountered police officers from central Buea. They stopped the taxi we were in checked ID cards and later asked us out of the taxi. They asked my younger brother for his phone and he left his phones at home because of that they got angry and said they want to check the taxi. As all of us were standing there they didn’t find anything and one of them let us away from the taxi and sent one officer to recheck the taxi again only then he came back with a pre roll Indian hemp (Banga) they started beating my brother slapping him violently that it belongs to him. We could only watch from a distance and the taxi driver said he doesn’t deal with such things that we should settle our problem ourselves. They later carried my brother to the station and forced him to accept that the banga was kept by him in between the back seats. The more he deny the allegations the more they torture him violently. He was later detained till midnight where they collected 250K from him.
We the youths have been crying the authorities don’t really care. Where should we go to ? Villages are not safe towns are not safe. What’s the crime of a young person that dresses well and clean? This same thing has been reported countless times but no one really cares. Barrister Agbor Balla, Ewule, Tamfu Richard we the youths in Buea are begging you to help us again.
Now instead of preparing for exams we’re looking for money to take our brother to the hospital to check if he has internal injuries because he’s been behaving abnormal."
