I think the Quran reads as a text that believes its tellings of history actually happened.

@MuslimAcademic The main project for Muslims should be defending Quranic inerrancy with respect to direct historical or scientific issues. Pre-islamic parallels aren't really a problem, even if one posits that the Prophetic Gap Elements are more probable on naturalistic models of Quran's origins

@MuslimAcademic and to explain that, a Muslim can just say that the author of the Neshana or his sources had knowledge from jinn. same move can be done for any tight parallel story element you see in the Quran and pre-Islamic sources in the Syriac or Jewish tradition (and there are quite a few)

@refuting_kufar @o0o_o0o_o0onice Yeah. I think Mark just describes it as a darkness, and you can get away with it being more of a supernatural event maybe. But Luke makes it more explicitly a solar eclipse, and so it is a historical difficulty in the text
