Destination Westminster Hall today, to talk to MPs about Universal Credit. £92 is not enough per week to live on. Our Foodbank / s are being pushed to the brink. Something has to happen.
Food banks from across Wales are on their way to Westminster today to call for an Essentials Guarantee within Universal Credit. 💚
Food banks are being pushed to the brink. Our social security system should at least support people to afford the essentials.
We need MPs to act!
Louise Casey gives us a focused & determined start to the yr in an all week series Fixing Britain. Was pleased to join her for the episode on children in care. Difficult problems can be fixed with political will. Essential we remember that in election year https://t.co/R5s2DXjpuI
So grateful to God for Alison who is with me through thick and thin.
On Thursday afternoon we were both assaulted in Earlsfield after I challenged some kids for abusing a cafe manager next to the station.
We were both punched repeatedly in the head from behind and Alison was knocked down. Kids were still hitting her whilst on the floor and passers-by had to tear them off.
I am thankful to the kindness of strangers risking themselves for us.
I'm sad our young daughter had to see her mum being treated like that.
I'm praying for the girls involved.
I pray for London's youth and children every day. They need hope, they need Jesus. After the loss of our son, Harry, we've felt a desire to help the teenagers of Wandsworth and this will redouble our efforts
We're going to be ok. I've got some concussion and feel a bit dizzy and we've both got headaches but the photo is from today. Alison is as beautiful as ever!
Thanks be to God, his mercies are new every morning.
Great is his faithfulness!

"An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth"
Some are quoting this text from the Hebrew scriptures with respect to the conflict in Israel and Gaza.
The fuller quote helps us see why it might say more than they realise....
“If people are fighting and hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise. '
Exodus 21
The context shows that actually this is a text about the rule of law and proportionality.
If there's a serious injury to someone you love then you are to settle this not through some personal vigilante violence but by involving the court.
Importantly the scripture makes sure the punishment is appropriate to the crime. If someone injures someone you love's eye the temptation is to rain down violence on them and their family but the eye for an eye concept is to limit punishment. It is all about proportionality.
The terror attacks on Israeli civilians were wicked, barbaric and inexcusable. Going after the perpetrators is entirely appropriate. But the mass displacement, blockading and bombing of civilians, especially children is not just.
The Free Church of Scotland is profoundly saddened by news of the death of Professor Donald Macleod. He passed away on Sunday 21st May. He was 82.

Quoting DA Carson here (from my suffering book) about how something can be true theologically, and yet at the same time the application of that truth is done inappropriately. So many of our public discourse is marred in this way.
Today the Church of England remembers someone who believed Jesus has good news for souls AND sexual ethics. Amy Carmichael (who died today in 1951) brought a gospel to South India that confronted spiritual AND sexual practices. She saved many women&girls from temple prostitution.
Woman makes argument that men and women are different and that men can be threatening.
Man becomes outraged and hurls the harshest epithets he can.
But that's not the deepest irony. The deepest irony is his later response (next tweet in the thread).
@emilyhewertson Unisex toilet spaces have already been created in the most vulnerable of settings, by stealth, in our schools. Where was public or parent consultation on this most dangerous of actions?
