Can you engineer new capabilities into bacteria without genetic engineering?
Yes! - Check our new @PNASNews paper where we use artificial cells that communicate with bacteria!

We’ve been named as 1st in the UK and 2nd in the world by QS @worlduniranking!
This recognises Imperial as one of the best places to study, research, work and grow.
Thanks to everyone in our community for making this possible 💙

New paper out - we show how synthetic cells can be dried, stored & reactivated at the point of use. This helps overcome a key barrier to their use outside the lab, bringing SynCells a step closer to real-world applications. Well done to @Ignacio_Gispert! https://t.co/lpcyABrH3N

Microfluidic production of hydrogel SynCells with spatially structured interiors — now out in Small Science! Huge congrats to group legend Matt Allen and the whole team!

Check out our latest paper in @JACS_Au describing novel methods to measure actin biophysics using FLIM & show that actin binding influences SynCell membrane mechanics. Kudos to superstar PhD student @IonChemBio & collabs @KuimovaGroup + @NickBrooks22

How is membrane fusion dependent on the mechanical properties of membranes? And does fusion depend on the (i) specific lipid composition or on the (ii) overal mesoscale properties?
Our recent study shows that the latter is the answer.

@SantiRCastillo I use "quick" for short duration and "rapid" for high rate/speed. With the volumes/amount of DNA I use things are rapid, but take 2 h, so a bit slow... 🧬🐌
📣 Quick reminder, Imperial GradBio Soc members! 🎓 Our 19th Oct meet-up 🗓 is near! Excited to kickstart the year with drinks 🥤, snacks 🍪 & more. Can't wait to see you all! 🧪🔬🎉 Let's make it epic! 💪🚀
I had a fascinating chat with @YuvalElani about his work creating increasingly life-like cells from scratch. He builds sophisticated architecture into them just like complex living cells have. Might highlight some bits later that didn’t make this post: https://t.co/363t5LJigF
New paper from our team! We’ve developed microfluidic technology to make liquid crystalline lipid nanoparticles with intricate 2D & 3D architectures. We show control over size = control over performance #TargetedTherapies#Vaccines

Our paper where we use use microfluidics to generate non-lamellar lipid nanoparticles (#cubosomes and #hexosomes) is out today in
@SciReports. Had a lot of fun with this research - hopefully others find it useful. Huge congrats to all involved. ☀️❤️ https://t.co/LMI7SfaWy9

We have another postdoc opening on synthetic cells, cell-free expression, DNA nanotech and membrane proteins. Collaboration with @DiMicheleLAB1 and Tomo Matsuura in Japan. Do apply if of interest, or get in touch for more info! https://t.co/YZjYPtGjpB
We're looking for 3 postdocs to work with us @ImperialChemEng@fabriCELL_UK on various topics in SynCell science, bio-inspired tech, microfluidics and BioHybrid systems @buildacell@SynCellEU. RT massively appreciated!
