Indigo Airlines does NOT care about their passengers with disabilities. I’ve been paralysed from the waist down since 2006 and I use a wheelchair for mobility. I flew from Delhi to Mumbai on 5th December, 2023 on flight number 6E-864. After everyone deplaned, the cabin crew forgot that I was on the flight.
The cabin crew were chatting to the captain or someone in a similar uniform. The cleaning crew had come on board and I had to inform them. That’s when the cabin crew rushed to arrange an aisle wheelchair.
I had to wait a total for 40 minutes to deplane after everyone else had exited the flight. I couldn’t alert the cabin crew because the call button was out of reach, like on all of their flights. I had even informed that I wanted my wheelchair at the gate and they failed to mention that as well.
A helper from Indigo had come to assist me and he was negligent as well. My legs were stiff but he kept on pushing the aisle chair. As soon as I arrived to the baggage claim, my wheelchair was nowhere to be seen. My fellow passengers had already collected their luggage and were leaving the airport.
I had to wait another 30 minutes for my personal wheelchair because no one had bothered to bring it up from the aircraft. Moving forward, I reached my car and the helper kept removing my personal wheelchair’s cushion. I kept telling him that it was mine but he didn’t listen.
When I arrived home, that’s when I realised that my cushion was nowhere to be found. That cushion is specifically made for me and my spine for the utmost comfort since I use a wheelchair full time.
After arriving home, I was on hold with Indigo’s customer care for 55 minutes until someone attended my call and took cognisance of my issue. The only resolution they had was to send an e-mail. No one was apologetic about my ordeal nor did they want to find a resolution.
Right now, I am left stranded on my bed with my independency stolen by Indigo and their carelessness. I cannot sit on my wheelchair without my cushion. Even though I have a disability, Indigo has left me disabled in the truest sense.
What am I supposed to do in this situation? My husband even visited the Indigo counter this morning and they are taking the whole ordeal lightly. They gave the number of the airport and instructed to ask for CCTV footage. On doing that, they want me to file an FIR now.
First, you steal my dignity, then you steal my independence, and now you’re stealing my peace of mind. Indigo Airlines, shame on you! You’re money hungry! Everyone knows the first row is the most comfortable for wheelchair users and/or people with actual physical problems.
Instead of accommodating to our needs, you’d rather sell those seats to make a profit. Whenever I’m boarding, I’m always made to sit in the aisle. Since I cannot walk or even stand, my co-passengers have to crawl over me. Often times their asses or their crotches are in my face.
Basically I HAVE to be harassed if I want to fly. I HAVE to deal with people’s genitals or their behinds in my face if I want to travel. I have to be boarded first and deplaned last. The washrooms aren’t accessible. You don’t have a cabin chair on board at all times for my safety or for my use.
What happens if there’s an emergency and the plane needs to be evacuated? Do I go down with the plane? Are my rights not rights? Am I merely a money paying machine to you? How the hell could you forget I was on board when I had boarded the Mumbai bound flight on a cabin chair?!
I am a motivational speaker and disability rights activist. I travel a lot for work and because of your foolishness, my ability to earn has also been hindered. What do you have to say about that? Who’s liable? Before anyone says “order another cushion online” THAT’S NOT HOW IT WORKS! THIS CUSHION WAS CUSTOMISED FOR ME AND FOR MY DISABILITY.

- The Last of Human Freedoms -
Man’s Search for Meaning is one of the most life-changing books I have ever read. It is a chronicle by Viktor Frankl of his experiences as a German Nazi concentration camp inmate during World War II.
In the book, Frankl describes his psychotherapeutic method, which involved identifying a purpose in life to feel positively about, and then immersively imagining that outcome.
The central theme of Frankl’s book is ‘survival.’ Although he witnessed and experienced horror, the book focuses less on the details of his own experience and more on how his time under Nazi rule showed him the human ability to survive and endure against all odds.
As Frankl wrote, he saw the lowest parts of humanity while in the camps. He saw fellow prisoners promoted to be in-camp guards turning on their fellow prisoners. He watched as they beat their lifeless, malnourished campmates. He watched sadistic guards treating them as if they were lower than animals. But he also saw individuals rising up like saints above it all.
One passage that impacted me the most from the book was this – "We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s way."
#Life, #investing included, is not easy. And unlike, what we imagine in both scenarios of triumphs and disasters, it is not supposed to move in a straight line of happiness and smiles, or sadness and pain. It is not supposed to stay the same, just like you are not supposed to stay the same.
Life is evolving and changing. It is a constant surge of ups and downs, twists and turns, and as Rudyard Kipling said, “…triumphs and disasters.” Like you have your happy and blissful moments, you are supposed to feel pain, get hurt, and experience losses occasionally. And some of them can be bad.
Now, that does not mean that you deserve every bit of the sadness, defeats, and tragedies that life hands over to you. It’s just part of the journey that we are walking through. It’s just part of what makes us human.
But if you can live like what Frankl describes in his book - "the last of human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s way," you would make Kipling proud who ended his poem "If" with these words –
"Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!"

The average American gets 3000 to 4000 steps a day.
This pales in comparison to our hunter gatherer ancestors who got 16,000 to 17,000 steps.
This image shows 2 brain scans that represent a students neural activity during a test following sitting and walking for 20 minutes.
The color blue represents lower neural activity, while the color red shows higher brain activity in a given region.
This shows that exercise has a massive impact not only on your physical health but your mental health.
Here are 5 reasons why:
1) It increases serotonin, norepinephrine & dopamine, which manage your thoughts & emotions.
2) It releases endorphins into your body that block out pain and make you feel good.
3) It promotes neuroplasticity, which enhances your brains ability to learn skills and change.
4) It increases oxygen supply to your brain that can help with memory, flexible thinking and self control.
5) It helps you manage stress & increase energy, which will help you become better at every aspect of life.
If exercise came in pill form, it would be plastered across the front page, hailed as the blockbuster drug of the century.
Do you need to hit a gym to get the benefits? It helps but no.
You can find ways to get more movement throughout your day.
It could be taking the stairs instead of using the elevator.
Or parking a bit farther from your spot. You could even do walking meetings.
You can do micro workouts like doing 10 pushups each time you use a door or squats before you sit.
There are many ways to get more exercise throughout your day that the only thing you have to get over is yourself.
Do not sleep on what a few more steps or a bout of intense exercise will do to your brain and body.
It is the #1 metahabit in the world for a reason. Use it to your advantage.
Ps. Credit to @SahilBloom for being the first one to bring this brain scan to my attention.
