💥WEEKEND RECAP💥
As we commemorated the one year anniversary of the NJ Detention Ban this Saturday, we know that immigrants can and have won before.
But our work doesn’t end with this. We’re calling for the passage of the #ValuesAct and #NewWayForwardAct NOW🗣
#ABOLISHICE
📣SATURDAY, AUGUST 20th @ 10 AM📣
We’re celebrating the one year anniversary of New Jersey’s Detention Ban, and rallying to continue the fight to #ABOLISHICE and pass the #ValuesAct 💥
We demand #NJForAll!
Friday nights we set up shop on a crip block then a blood hood. It’s all love.
We distribute hot dinners, a free thrift store of winter clothing and @StJoesEM provides free blood pressure and glucose screenings.
This is community this is mutual aid.

Inside we shut down the AWS keynote. With back to back speakers, we gave @Amazon leadership the teach-in they didn't want: how they profit off powering devastating state violence here and across the globe, driven by greed. #AWSsummit#AmazonHurts 🧵
Outside, we spoke to #AWS attendees. Engineers. Consultants. Designers. Coders. We did sidewalk teach ins. We held space. They filled it with care for workers, immigrants, Black lives and Palestinians by showing their solidarity with stickers on their badges. 🧵 #AmazonHurts
Our communities were all targeted by Amazon AWS.
So today at @Amazon#AWSsummit, groups standing with workers, with immigrants, and against mass incarceration at home and apartheid abroad came together.
Outside. And inside. 🧵
If prison and police actually prevented crime or produced public safety, the US would be the safest country in the world. The reality is that prison is crimonogenic & police don’t produce public safety. Anyone arguing for more prison & police is ignoring 50yrs of policy failure.
Another #ValuesAct sponsor! Huge shoutout to Assemblymember @JohnFMcKeon for being a #ValuesAct co-sponsor! 🌟
Thank you for standing up for the inclusion of the immigrant community at all levels and creating an #NJForAll 💐
Something worth celebrating! However, as Banessa Quiroga from @MaketheRoadNJ said, “The legislature must permanently expand the safety net to ensure individuals excluded from aid”
We need more than singular fixes.
Shoutout to Policy & Campaigns Manager Laura Bustamante, named on @INSIDER__NJ's LGBTQ+ Power List!
Race, sex, gender, immigration status -- our struggles for justice are intertwined, none of us is free until we all are. It's a gift to have champs like Laura on Team NJAIJ🏆🏅💐
“If there’s no data to represent you, you basically don’t exist.” -Rania Mustafa, @PACCUSA
As we celebrate the #DataDisaggregation bill’s huge win in passing through the Assembly, we urge the Senate to act on making sure every New Jerseyan is properly represented. Onwards! 🌟
In July 1839, kidnapped Africans aboard the ship La Amistad revolted, sparing the navigators in exchange for return voyage across the Atlantic. Betrayed, they would be taken to New London and later New Haven, CT for imprisonment, in a trial that would reach the Supreme Court🧵
