@Pat_F_11 Why is PHI moving Tippett? I realize you’re not the first to mention him but… seems odd. That franchise was ecstatic to make the playoffs. Tippett is 27-28 goals/season and his contact is amazing at 6.2M AAV for 6 more years (age 33). No.9 is a great but they want to win now.
@sportyandhot They should go with 8 divisions of 4 teams. The geography works well (ex. SEA, VAN, CAL, EDM). Limits travel in-division and you can balance the schedule perfectly in an 84 game season (24 division games, 36 conference games, 24 games against the other conference).
In a week FA class, Anders Lee would make a lot of sense for the Sens on a short term deal. He’s got size, intangibles, durability, and consistent production. He’s not THE piece but he’d have real value on this team.
@EverydaySens If you’re a team in a Canadian market, why are you giving any player a NMC in the current environment? You are always going to pay market value (or a slight premium) regardless. I suspect the huge majority of players would accept a deal without a NMC if it meant getting paid.
@StaticRomance@ElBaz13@DLee075 And if they are picking T10 in ‘29, chances are their current group has aged out/gotten too banged up to win. The T10 protection doesn’t worry me at all. The further out the pick is, the more valuable it is likely to be.
has more value to a Cap team that is a regular playoff participant OR a team looking to unload and rebuild (like say… DAL or STL). I believe there are trades involving players that are soon to follow. Let’s see. (2/2)
I assume Staios has some irons in the fire. 1) this wasn’t a shock to them; 2) they wanted no.25 over Samoskevich. FLA includes him in a Brady deal if OTT insists. Instead, they dealt him to SEA. This suggests that pick has more value to OTT. And I’ll bet the pick… (1/2)
@LalimesMartian@11bkjimena They finally have the assets to chase some of the names they’ve been tied to recently, without gutting the roster. I imagine it’s going to be really busy between now and the draft.
I suspect this Tkachuk deal is going to look awful in the short-term. I expect the best version of him next year in FLA. But… his game is hard on the body and that next deal will be massive. He missed 10 and 22 games the last 2 years. He’s at peak or not far off. Decline coming.
Losing Tkachuk isn’t a crisis. The Sens did pretty well on the return and they have assets to either draft or trade now. My big concern is Sanderson. Hopefully he’s bought in because he’s the guy they can’t afford to lose.
This is good work from Staios given the circumstances. Puckpedia has list the deal as Brady for:
- no.9 (2026)
- no.25 (2026)
- 1st in 2029
- 2nd in 2030
Three picks this year is big for 100 reasons. And that FLA team is not a long term contender. This looks smart.
@ComingInHotSens I refuse to give them credit for Stutzle. It was a consensus 3-player draft at the top, and they picked 3rd. That said, massive amounts of credit are due for taking Sanderson over Drysdale, and the Greig pick aged well (if memory serves, some considered that a reach.) Huge draft.
@GraemeNichols@TheHockeyNews If the org has done one thing well when it comes to player development, it’s fix skating issues. It sounds like every other aspect of MacTavish’s game is good, and he can really fire the puck. And I am pretty certain that 7M is the new 5-6M player with the Cap increases. Why not?
@SanderGoat85 The problem is Pinto’s upside. He’s a top defensive C, statistically among the top shut down forwards in the NHL. And he shows enough flashes on offence to wonder what his true potential is if he was given more offensive zone starts. I’d be more worried dealing Pinto than Yak.
@DLee075 I think “big” is the wrong adjective. I do think there is an argument for moving Spence for a “long” D to help shore up the defensive zone play. You don’t have to be a thumper anymore (doesn’t hurt) but long D that close down space are absolutely key to playoff success.
@AM__Trick@brandonpiller1 You’d have to play Spence on his off hand to replace Chabot (and the Sens seem opposed to that as an org.) And this team lacks some jam, do you really want to move Greig? Some accounts suggest Hensler had a tough year. His value is likely down a bit.
@WhiskeyNick95@MikeShanah29021 1) I think Alfie would matter w Nylander. 2) I think pairing him w Timmy and telling them to play at full speed would be enticing.
3) I suspect it would be nice to get out of TO (and the media presence) before the rebuild/reboot/whatever they are doing.
