We are thankful for Sen. @piacayetano, a champion of learners with disabilities, who advocated for the special provisions for accessible infrastructure from GAA 2021 and 2022 to be retained for GAA 2023. #DapatAllAccessible#SpendforSPED

📢 Statement on the zero budget for DepEd's SPED Program 📢
We express our deep disappointment in the removal of the SPED Program budget in the DepEd’s proposed NEP for 2023. We are discouraged that the most disadvantaged and vulnerable bear the brunt of government budget cuts.
We appeal to our champions for children with disabilities in Congress to include these provisions in the DepEd’s budget allocation & language.
We also appeal for the new leadership in the DepEd to implement these policies and make our schools truly disability-inclusive.
Many persons with disabilities still experience barriers in accessing and fully participating in public, social, political services. Evidence-based policy development and implementation is key to reduce barriers and advance rights.

But we CAN start with the minimum requirements so that our 5.1 million Filipino learners with disabilities can access schools and education, right, USec @kris_ablan? :)

We call on our lawmakers:
💰 To allocate a responsive budget in the special education for around 5.1 million learners with disabilities
🏫 To include accessibility features in the budget's provision on school repairs

“Providing aid to 18 million vulnerable families is not always an assurance. Persons with disabilities face multiple layers of marginalization. Their exclusion in the 2015 Census automatically made them statistically invisible to the State.”

Minimum requirements are also important in public buildings – LIKE SCHOOLS! 🏫
Learners with disabilities need ramps, non-skid flooring, accessible toilets, & wide pathways, so they can learn with their classmates. 👨🦽👩🦽

Abner Manlapaz shared minimum requirements for accessibility - and I find that it’s very important to highlight sensitivity training. There’s so much that needs to be done in teaching people how to treats Persons with Disability #CommutersNaman
