@Thought_Wander @KShrikaanth Tamil, Kannada are sister languages. Kannada developed separately and avoided the palatalization from *k- to c like Tamil. Eg ke- developed as cem/civappu in Tamil, but stayed as kempu in Kannada. Genitives ge/da developed separately from Tamil ukku/in. Many evidences like this

As a francophone, I find this double register of English delightful. The germanic traces of Frankisk in French are very faint. Some words often in the military register like Guerre (War) or Escarmouche (Skirmish) subside, but French is mostly fermented latin.
