@mathcampbell @MoiAliEdinburgh @DickinsEdin If registering by way of an organisation, it's even worse as full details of ALL directors/partners need to be provided. So not an ideal solution and not quite as simple as you claim councillor. Please start listening to legitimate concerns rather than dismissing them so lightly.
@murdo_fraser@ScotParl@ASSCnews Thank you Murdo! Let's get some data rather than the usual empty platitudes from Govt ministers. Then ask them what percentage/how many secondary let licences have been granted in Edinburgh to date. Spoiler...it's not very many!
@WingsScotland The first big independence march I attended, it was a full 2 hours from the start time that we at the end of Johnson Terrace even started to move! Packed like sardines into the narrow street! Joyous though. Changed days! I look forward to that energy & positivity returning.
Yes! Surely not beyond the ken of ScotGov & CEC. Keep it simple, evaluate results at each stage & modify where needed. All stakeholders' needs considered at each phase. Govt says they've consulted, so all is well, but they've not listened to the responses from the industry!!
@oldtownrez@djohnsonmsp This!! A thousand times this! It's so straightforward and incremental & avoids all the approaching unintended consequences. Cannot understand why the govt /councils are insisting on their current wrecking ball approach, when it's so unnecessary!!
@NeilHHDiamond@Loughran18@tractorgirly@brendak2408@murdo_fraser Nope. Professional operators, who probably already comply with all safety standards, who made the mistake of thinking Edinburgh would be a good place to invest in and run their businesses.
@Loughran18@tractorgirly@brendak2408@murdo_fraser 90% of secondary let businesses in Edinburgh have been blocked by CEC planning department from even being able to apply for a licence. So them for starters.
@11bute@murdo_fraser NOBODY is against meeting safety regulations. Most B&Bs & STLs will already comply with all safety regulations. The issue is the extra cost & paperwork & the possibility that many businesses are being blocked from getting a licence by retrospective planning regs and onerous costs
@pitonas1981@BoxerLogical@tractorgirly@brendak2408@murdo_fraser The unintended consequences of well-meant but badly developed & implemented legislation. Regulation was needed. Decimation is not. By the time the penny drops the damage will have been done. Good luck finding a B&B or holiday let in Scotland in 2024 & beyond.
@ruth_wishart@murdo_fraser Stranger things have happened Ruth. When the people you've supported & voted for suddenly decide to turn you into a pariah and set out to actually ruin you, it hurts. Not surprisingly, it causes a pretty fundamental re-evaluation!
@murdo_fraser Thanks for standing up for small businesses Murdo. We won't forget who was there for us and who wasn't. The anti business rhetoric of the SNP & Greens on this subject has been sickening. So many livelihoods just being trashed for no good reason.
@Sweetie44444@m_jivetoaster@WingsScotland Exactly. When I look at my MPs voting record, I've never yet seen one that he's been on the winning side for. Pretty much every single time he's voted since 2015, he's not got what he wanted. What was the point of being there?!
STL Licensing
Multiple judicial reviews. Multiple illegal council policies eg requirement for embassies to certify overseas criminal record checks. Excessive fees upto Β£5689. Ridiculous controls on licensed properties (eg on bins, carpets and hot tubs).
98% of Edinburgh expected to close. B&Bs can't afford the scheme - 60% now closing. Strategy to closedown and increase housing stock under pretext of health and safety in Edi although only 0.5% of stock. Health and safety standards already in place.
When 84% of Scottish operators haven't applied the clear sign is something is badly wrong. Remember DRS application rate was 15%. Sign of a failing scheme.
Someone needs to brief @HumzaYousaf and fast. He needs to make an informed decision as a leader. A licensing scheme is appropriate but not this scheme.

The stark reality of @edinburgh_CC's implementation of an extermination scheme for local #Edinburgh S/C operators made to pay to apply for summary execution & little hope of being able to apply for an STL Licence. @mediawummin @donturvLDR @cllrcammyday @scotgov@ETAG_UK
@SaveSCScotland@Edinburgh_CC@mediawummin @donturvLDR @cllrcammyday @scotgov@ETAG_UK And they all continue to insist that all we need to do is 'comply with existing regulations' and 'apply for a licence'. It's clearly not the case!!
