Serious question - WHAT does it take for a government to reach out and talk...just talk!
more than a dozen kids gave up their lives coz the inefficient insensitive admin treats this exam as just another day's work...But it means so much more to so many - My house-help - her son in Pune wants to become a doctor, will be sitting for the NEET next year and she is worried for him - there are lakhs of households across the country who want a better future for their children - what hope can we hold out for them that we will not inflict such pain on our youth again?

My comments on the AI Summit (said something similar on my panel yesterday):

A summit like this, with this much bandwidth allocated to it by the government, even if the agenda is flat, even if organizing is poor, ends up making AI a priority focus for ministries and state governments.

This is hugely important because it encourages diffusion of AI execution specific thinking across ministries, industries, among students, and ends up increasing adoption of AI in the country, especially in governance and by both central and state level ministries.

That reduces time for adoption of AI. We saw this play out with the governments Digital India focus: it increased digitisation and the adoption of digital technologies. The agenda and India's role in AI globally, and how this summit is being run is less important than speeding up adoption right now.

This is a transformational moment, and I want to thank the Indian government and @narendramodi
for bringing the AI summit to India, and giving it India scale.

250,000 people attending, especially students, is the beginning of a mindset change. We need this.

Many many parts of the puzzle have to come together for any country to win the AI battle. We're seeing models improve regularly, and Sarvam has come out with some fairly good models in the past week alone. India does appear to be lagging when compared with both the US and China, but winning this battle has many variable to consider: hardware, training data, model architecture, usage diffusion, among others.

We're seeing ChatGPT platformise, and Gemini and Copilot spread into into all Google and Microsoft owned surfaces, in order to build user habit. Adoption of global models is far greater that of local models in India. I think that's a battle already lost.

Where still there remains opportunity is in sectoral diffusion: education, healthcare, defense, commerce, governance, manufacturing, pharmaceutical research, and much more. We need to adopt open source (not Chinese censored models) and build our own small language models.

This is a start of a Digital India like moment, and I'm very hopeful.

The reality of building web apps in 2025 is that it's a bit like assembling IKEA furniture. There's no "full-stack" product with batteries included, you have to piece together and configure many individual services:

- frontend / backend (e.g. React, Next.js, APIs)
- hosting (cdn, https, domains, autoscaling)
- database
- authentication (custom, social logins)
- blob storage (file uploads, urls, cdn-backed)
- email
- payments
- background jobs
- analytics
- monitoring
- dev tools (CI/CD, staging)
- secrets
- ...

I'm relatively new to modern web dev and find the above a bit overwhelming, e.g. I'm embarrassed to share it took me ~3 hours the other day to create and configure a supabase with a vercel app and resolve a few errors. The second you stray just slightly from the "getting started" tutorial in the docs you're suddenly in the wilderness. It's not even code, it's... configurations, plumbing, orchestration, workflows, best practices. A lot of glory will go to whoever figures out how to make it accessible and "just work" out of the box, for both humans and, increasingly and especially, AIs.

This graph should scare everyone in India esp as AI / AGI is looming. Our households have some of the highest burdens on out of pocket spending on key services like health, education, etc. Moreover our gov spends some of the lowest amounts on individuals. A recipe for high inequality over time for a fast growing country.

We need:
1) a "PLI" equivalent to orgs offering AI reskilling
2) UBI/conditional income scheme/low interest loans for citizens tied to upskilling
3) a "National AI commons" digital public infra to give everyone access to federated data, compute and models.
4) aggressively open regulatory positions on use of AI for mass use cases. E.g. a certified "AI tutor" or "AI doctor/lawyer" who can legally prescribe meds for basic needs or pass judgement on simple but high volume cases like traffic ticket disputes, or consumer court complaints with disbursements < 10k INR.
5) we can't outspend US/china but we need to take leadership in the global south to ensure inclusivity and affordability for this part of the world.

The amount of cancer patients seen by me in opd today at government hospital in Mumbai India 🇮🇳. 140 pts .

I am doing this for free of cost ,( I don't take any honorarium
for this ) , twice a week , for last 11 years (since March 2013 )
All get free cancer treatment With first line and second line chemotherapy . Some do get targeted drugs like trastuzumab and bevacizumab for free. This is positive impact of government schemes Iike Ayushman Bharat and MPAJY @PMOIndia @Dev_Fadnavis

All these are very poor patients . We can not give state of the art care but With what ever we can give , some of them do get cured and lot of them have good disease control.

This is my small contribution to the society from which I come and became medical oncologist.
I am sure lots of oncologist are doing much more impacful work than this. And I appreciate and admire all of them .

If all of us decide to give something back to society, in which ever manner , small or big , probably we can make a difference 🙂.
