An IIT Bombay student has shared his personal experience with Prof. Suryanarayana Doolla, saying that despite having disagreements with him, he had repeatedly seen Doolla help students facing financial and medical crises, even responding to calls at 3–4 AM and staying with students in hospitals.

He says this is only his personal experience, but believes this side of the professor should also be heard.

In 2023, Sewa Nyaya Utthan Foundation complained that a school in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, was forcing children to wear burqa and recite religious texts of another community, while prohibiting kalawa and tilak on campus

Shri @kanoongopriyank took cognisance and issued notices to the authorities. An FIR (498/23) was subsequently filed at Damoh Kotwali police station

The accused approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking quashing of the FIR

THE COURT HAS REFUSED. THE TRIAL WILL CONTINUE

This is why we fight - from investigation to complaint to lasting institutional change

I strongly oppose the charges against Prof. Suryanarayana Doolla of IIT Bombay under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

My background: I belong to the Devendra Kula Vellalar (DKV) community, classified as SC. I grew up in deep rural poverty and witnessed the suffering of my people first-hand. I was educated thanks to broad-minded people from many communities.

I studied Electronics at NIT Tiruchirappalli, worked at C-DOT Bengaluru, and then at Intel in India and the US, where I rose to Engineering Director and Senior Silicon Architect, responsible for high-speed interconnects vital to modern CPUs and GPUs. I hold multiple patents in this field.

I share this to make clear that I know what it means to come from an SC community and rise through hard work and commitment.

Our DKV community has taken a principled, voluntary stand not to file SC/ST cases against anyone. We have seen how cases under this Act are weaponised, and how that deepens enmity on the ground.

On that basis, I oppose the misuse of this Act in this case. The case against Prof. Doolla must be withdrawn. This matters for the future of SC/ST students and for our nation.

India’s Zinc Distillation Secret: A 12th-Century Chemical Breakthrough

Zinc is a strange metal.
You heat it and it evaporates.
You try to melt it and it vanishes into vapor.

Even Greek, Chinese and Persian early metallurgists were unable to extract it in a pure form. It was a problem in Europe until the 16th and 17th centuries.

However, Indian metallurgists had already figured out the solution in Rajasthan in the 12th century. They invented what appears to be modern chemical engineering at Zawar, close to Udaipur, without the use of labs, beakers or modern degrees.

They designed vertical clay retorts, stacked in massive kilns. Zinc ore went in. Fire below.

As the zinc vaporized, it traveled downward, condensed in another sealed pot… and became usable pure zinc metal.

This method, which we now identify with contemporary science, is known as downward distillation.

They didn’t just invent it.
They industrialized it.

Archaeologists discovered thousands of broken clay retorts at Zawar, as well as kiln designs, slag heaps, and site layouts spanning the 12th to 18th centuries CE.

Europe didn’t catch up until 400–500 years later.

This wasn’t alchemy.
This was chemistry in its rawest, most brilliant form.
And it happened right here in Bharat 🇮🇳
