Ruto just spent 40 minutes trying to create a false equivalence between our national values set out in the constitution and his so called “development”. Kenyans, please trust me when i tell you there is a reason the Preamble comes before Article 43. You don’t get to the “development “ clauses until and unless you have taken into account the reasons we passed this constitution in the first place. Democracy, Human Rights, Freedom, Equality, Rule of Law and Social Justice.

Almost every Kenyan now knows a relative, friend or former colleague who once lived comfortably, paid bills without begging and supported others, but has now been reduced to borrowing for food, rent and school fees.

Where exactly is this “investor confidence” Ruto keeps talking about when ordinary businesses are dying, incomes are collapsing and formerly stable families are becoming desperate?

The only people enjoying this economy are Ruto, his friends and those feeding from government deals. Everyone else is being told to celebrate figures that have no relationship with the suffering on the ground.

Ruto can read all the reports, charts and manufactured data he wants, but the real economy is on the ground, where businesses are closing, taxes are choking traders and families are struggling to survive.

His investor-confidence jaba cannot rhyme with empty shops, collapsing businesses, job losses and Kenyans whose incomes disappear before meeting basic needs.

You cannot govern through PowerPoint presentations when the country outside State House is suffocating.

Countries with retrogressive visa policies should not be allowed to host global tournaments.

The Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan was reportedly denied entry into the US despite having a valid visa, meaning he will miss his World Cup debut as the first Somali official at the tournament. That alone tells you how broken this hosting model is.

You cannot invite the world to your country, collect tournament glory, collect tourism money, collect broadcast attention, then humiliate qualified officials and participants at the border.

Even the extortionist visa system at the US Embassy in Nairobi should be condemned. Kenyans pay money, fill forms, queue, wait for months, then someone rejects them in two minutes and keeps the money.

If your visa policy treats Africans like suspects and ATMs, you have no business hosting the world.
