So excited to tune in to the Maryland Educators of Gifted Students virtual conference for my professional learning day! “Bright Minds, Bold Futures: Empowering Educators of the Gifted.” The best part? Getting to exchange notes with my MSAATS teammate @WFMShkehr! #BetterTogether
Looking forward to sharing out what I’m learning today and bringing my learning back to the two schools I support to better serve their students and staff.

Forget “I can” statements….in this classroom, we can tell you what we are doing, why we do it, and how to know if we have mastered the skill. #roohoo#fcpsvanguard
Mrs. Ruckert at GTJMS decided to have her 8th grade honors Ss work collaboratively to find and explain the mathematical reasoning behind adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing exponents.
It was so cool to see the effortful thinking going on. Every group was proving the correct answer in their own unique way, and hearing them talk to each other about their thinking just really filled my teacher bucket. Can’t wait to see how these HAL & Honors Ss grow this year!
A big thank you to Mrs. Forney and Mr. Forney at Windsor Knolls MS for inviting me to join their classes yesterday! I got to put faces to names with some of our GT students and even see the new Into Literature curriculum in action!
It was also great to get to meet some students in Mr. Forney’s 7th grade honors math class and see them working through a Reveal Math lesson on work mats, and seeing Mr. Forney intentionally working his way around the room to get a pulse on how the kids are doing.
Had a great day yesterday at Gov. Thomas Johnson Middle School working with the science department, looking at MISA data, reflecting on past instructional practices, and leaning into the conversation on how to better meet student needs.
Loved the focus on KWLs and retrieval practice, as well as identifying skill gaps. Looking forward to doing my part in raising the bar for our HAL kids with curricular resources that will support these hard working teachers.
Had a great time yesterday connecting with HAL science Ts yesterday at Windsor Knolls MS! Love the thoughtfulness and reflection on supporting HAL Ss - what’s been done in the past? What do they want to reimagine? How can we partner to better meet the needs of these Ss?
