QInfo is an Inria Project-Team focusing on quantum information. We develop mathematical and algorithmic tools to make optimal use of quantum information.
We are hiring! The QInfo Inria team in Lyon/Grenoble is inviting applications for postdoctoral researcher positions as well as PhD positions in quantum information theory and related areas, in particular mathematical optimization.
This was thought impossible, because it doesn't work for the Kronecker-product representation of the tensor product. However, we showed that there is another representation of the tensor product which does work, thus leading to consistency with the postulates.
https://t.co/7mPHNyVVtD… Quanta covers our work https://t.co/SjneWrcLau…& that of the German team's showing that quantum theory doesn't need complex numbers. In addition to the discussion here, we show that quantum theory based on real numbers is consistent with the postulates!
Agency > Intelligence
I had this intuitively wrong for decades, I think due to a pervasive cultural veneration of intelligence, various entertainment/media, obsession with IQ etc. Agency is significantly more powerful and significantly more scarce. Are you hiring for agency? Are we educating for agency? Are you acting as if you had 10X agency?
Grok explanation is ~close:
“Agency, as a personality trait, refers to an individual's capacity to take initiative, make decisions, and exert control over their actions and environment. It’s about being proactive rather than reactive—someone with high agency doesn’t just let life happen to them; they shape it. Think of it as a blend of self-efficacy, determination, and a sense of ownership over one’s path.
People with strong agency tend to set goals and pursue them with confidence, even in the face of obstacles. They’re the type to say, “I’ll figure it out,” and then actually do it. On the flip side, someone low in agency might feel more like a passenger in their own life, waiting for external forces—like luck, other people, or circumstances—to dictate what happens next.
It’s not quite the same as assertiveness or ambition, though it can overlap. Agency is quieter, more internal—it’s the belief that you *can* act, paired with the will to follow through. Psychologists often tie it to concepts like locus of control: high-agency folks lean toward an internal locus, feeling they steer their fate, while low-agency folks might lean external, seeing life as something that happens *to* them.”
We are excited to announce the workshop "Entangle This VI" that we are organizing on quantum science and technology in Madrid, 15th-19th September 2025. Registration and abstract submission is currently open! https://t.co/JzCc0Js93l
@dsfranca and I are looking for a joint Postdoc to work on aspects of quantum computing towards a quantum advantage. Applications are now open. Funding via the EU TouQan consortium grant https://t.co/RECxxmb3sz Please retweet!
Our Hamiltonian learning paper has just been published in Nature Communications: https://t.co/EX418YU7dQ It includes new results on the robustness of the protocol to "rogue" couplings and structure learning! Thanks to my collaborators @QMATH_KU, TUDelft and Harvard for this work!
Introducing FunSearch in @Nature: a method using large language models to search for new solutions in mathematics & computer science. 🔍
It pairs the creativity of an LLM with an automated evaluator to guard against hallucinations and incorrect ideas. 🧵 https://t.co/MC5ttgvZeM
The impact of noise on the accuracy of a quantum clock is investigated, unveiling a necessary and sufficient requirement for accuracy that extends standard error-correcting conditions to quantum metrology. @phfaist, @preskill, @WoodsMischa, @victorvalbert

Fantastic @TQC_conference plenary talk by @dsfranca with a strong if sobering message: noise is *provably* a very real issue for near-term quantum advantage in combinatorial optimization tasks (think QAOA). Way to go, Daniel!!!
The great Omar Fawzi just finished his grad summer school lectures on Quantum Info Theory, here at @the_IAS Park City Math Institute. Lecture videos here:

(You've never seen this proof of Strong Subadditivity before!)
Stay tuned for further updates...
#Quantummetrology is often seen as a field of research studying the Fisher information - but in the realistic finite-sample regime, the setting can be quite different.

Finally out https://t.co/dI26qJYdoJ We develop a physical realization using light-matter interactions of optimal quantum clocks with a quadratic advantage over classical ones. We use exotic but physical states of matter to achieve ultra-regular spontaneous emission 1/2
... far exceeding the regularity of conventional spontaneous emission. Engineering the discrete quantum Fourier Transform into the light-matter coupling via symmetry, Berry phases and precise flux loop insertions turned out to be key. Looking forward to an eventual experiment
Finally published. This was a fun project with Michal Horodecki. Many people from the non-resouce theory approach to quantum thermo predicted that the 2nd laws would fail due to the impossibility to implement their fine-grained high-precision control. Here we prove otherwise.
@qip2023 will start tomorrow! Our team's work will be featured in two short plenary and three contributed talks, marking a strong presence! Make sure to check them out! We also will present several posters and various group members are present!
And if you like this research line and are looking for postdocs, please get in touch! We have plenty of positions available at @InriaQinfo! I will also be at QIP next week and happy to chat about this work or anything else :) 11/11
New paper out with @CambyseRouze, @EmilioOno and @JamesDCWatson, "Efficient learning of ground & thermal states within phases of matter" ! In this work, we tackle two questions related to learning quantum states and phases!
