Thousands are living in dire conditions and still lack adequate shelter, food, water, sanitation, and healthcare. The growing influx is straining already limited resources in a region battling food insecurity and poor access to basic services.

Floods, droughts and storms are forcing millions from their homes. In 2024, Africa alone saw 7.8 million disaster displacements (IDMC).

The new @IFRC report, ‘Forced to Flee in a Changing Climate’, shows how Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies — and others in impacted communities —are helping people adapt, stay safe, or move with dignity.

At the IFRC, we recognize that locally led action is central to reducing the risks of displacement and meeting the needs of those already displaced. This report is a call to action, to invest in local actors, empower communities, and ensure that no one is left behind.

Heartbreaking.

People in Gaza are in dire need, with extremely limited access to aid or essential services.

The population is once again facing an acute risk of famine, with conditions the worst they've been in 19 months. Basic food supplies are no longer available in markets or distribution points, making it impossible to meet the minimum nutritional needs of over one million displaced people.

Without safe access - families will starve.
Without safe access - humanitarian workers can't save lives.

I reiterate my call for a safe and unhindered humanitarian space to allow the continuous flow of critical aid.

Today, I had the privilege to join the opening of the International Conference's Spotlight session on migration addressing the pressing humanitarian challenges, emphasizing the complex nature of the issue.

Migration is a phenomenon, not a crisis. Our mission at the @IFRC is simple yet profound: we serve people – human beings – regardless of their legal status, but by shared dignity and humanity.

The role of local actors is crucial in these migration contexts, they are the ones driving meaningful change in their communities.

From January to March 2024, Lesotho faced severe heatwaves and high temperatures, exacerbating widespread crop dryness and failures across many regions.
With the help of IFRC-DREF, @LesothoRedCross will assist 12,500 people across four districts. This support will be provided through sustainable interventions such as access to clean water, crop production initiatives, and multipurpose cash transfers.
