Glad someone is really digging up the numbers of the ethanol scam.

To put this in simple words

- You can export raw maize at ₹100
- But no, you want to waste your time processing it and convert it to ethanol. The global market value of that is ₹105. This has two implications
A) the actual forex savings is only ₹5. Because you have the option of selling maize into the global market
B) The ethanol plants are creating huge negative value-add. Because surely the cost of processing maize is more than ₹5 in this case.

Guess who foots that bill of negative value-add? Yes, poor suckers like us who are forced to buy at ₹150+ what is worth only ₹105.

Sure, I can do it for the nation. I am bigger Bharat Mata ki Jai person than most people out here. But the nation sees little benefit either due to better forex reserves or in terms of energy security.

Brazil was one of the first countries to widely adopt E100 fuel, but it later shifted to a flex-fuel system. We should have at least learned from the challenges Brazil faced before pursuing a similar path.
