@Robkearney1981 Nobody in those top countries admits their parents in nursing homes because they want to. This is more telling on what you're willing to believe about other countries. "At least we love our parents, not like those other countries!"
@Lamest570@portraitinflesh These days, we are generous with how stupid with think Europeans were in the 1500s. They knew colonization was bringing disease and enslavement exacerbated deaths from disease. They were called out and even sometimes arrested for it. Genocide is a perfect word for what they did.
@Lamest570@portraitinflesh Antonio de Montesinos was another critic of Spanish treatment of Native Americans in the Caribbean and he specifically called out the Spanish for contributing to deaths by illness. All before Cortes' illegal conquest of Mexico that only narrowly was successful.
@natbaker@TheCinesthetic It's not, but now that it's in a blockbuster movie it's locked in peoples' minds. He visited Kyoto long after being married. He was against bombing Kyoto because of its cultural importance to Japan.
@ReddCinema I bet this would have done very well in theaters if it wasn't for covid. Now by default everyone acts like it was a failure when it didn't have a chance to shine.
