@HPArkes_ This example is wrongly worded to suggest the visitor from London has a positive right. Natural law gives the visitor negative rights to not be assaulted and to self defense if he is. He doesn't automatically have a positive right to the labor of others to come and defend him.
@NickKristof@elonmusk What you're describing is charity, which must be given freely in order to be ethical. Taxation is taken by force, so it's inherently unethical, but if it's to lean ethical at all, it must be limited to things every citizen would likely pay for one way or another: like defense.
@restoreorderusa "Slavery had existed since the founding of the colonies," makes it sound like it was a phenomenon unique to America. Then the exhibit neglects to mention that Vermont ended slavery in 1777, which influenced Britain to follow suit. Humanity would still have slavery if not for USA.
@robinhanson This is the core of Ludwig Wittgenstein's work. A telescope can't be pointed at itself. There's a great collection of essays by one of his students, Maurice Drury, that I read a few years ago. "The Danger of Words." Opened my eyes to deep confusions created by word misuse.
@RiffRaf979 @EHPlimsoll1 The smartest and stupidest people are male. If gender parity is reached in the top knowledge jobs, that would almost certainly mean that efficiency is being compromised.
@Saith255@KeithForLiberty Wrong. Most free stuff has an implicit contact: each person should take only a reasonable amount, usually one per person. That's why people get mad at kids that take all the Halloween candy in an unattended bowl.
Also: don't take it at all if you're just going to throw it out.
@HeathHowardNH Why are you doing public service if you can't afford your own insurance? You need a career. One that pays. And you should consider one in healthcare. After 10 years working in that industry, you will almost certainly see that the solution you're proposing would be suboptimal.
@WhyTanFox@MaoZedongs_@NewJerseyLP@NJGov Left libertarian: emphasis on personal freedom (legalized drugs, sexual freedom, open borders, criminal justice)
Right libertarian: emphasis on economic freedom (low taxes, strong property rights, reducing regulations, personal responsibility)
@NewJerseyLP@MaoZedongs_@FreeStateNH@LPNational You're wrong, and it's telling that you're blind to it. Chair gives NH time to speak, tells LPNJ delegate to be quiet, which she ignores, robbing NH of time to express their vision for the party. โ>Clear NAP violation. The chair would eject the LPNJ delegate if he was impartial.
@NewJerseyLP@MaoZedongs_@FreeStateNH@LPNational Preventing someone from being able to speak during their allotted time is in fact both censorship and aggression. Your delegate failed to uphold libertarian values and caused an embarrassing disruption with her attention-seeking, not unlike the edgelord behavior you criticize.
@NewJerseyLP@MaoZedongs_@FreeStateNH Will you censure your delegate who was aggressively disrupting the expression of free speech and simultaneously making the LP look like a clown show that should never be trusted with political power? With a rubber chicken no less, smdh. You really shouldn't be throwing stones.
@Sbebeau96@TRHLofficial@LPNH FYI, @grok is wrong. The current rift is between left and right libertarians. LPNH just got officially booted from the LP by left libertarians who believe their strategy of working with the GOP and posting messaging that will scare away left wingers is making the LP look bad.
@libertydadpod Yes, it was very unbecoming of the supposed party of principle that claims to champion free speech. "Keep making your point" hit home, and it was especially disheartening that other candidates and moderators didn't speak up and stop the disruptions.
