@jarvis_best I just showed this post to my 10 year old and he said "this sucks. he's really a lawyer? his clients must be sad."
I hugged him and gave him an extra dollop of mayonnaise on his mayonnaise.
@laconicus_eth@memeticsisyphus There's two options. Which one is most likely?
1. If everyone would just get in the long line, my wishes would be granted.
2. If everyone would just look after their own self interests and choose the shorter line, traffic would move faster for everyone.
@NewJerseyOAG Nuclear is cheaper, has lower COโ emissions, and lasts three times longer than off-shore wind.
"Green energy" outside of nuclear is an expensive boondoggle which is exactly why politicians love it.
@NewJerseyOAG Off-shore wind is one of the most expensive sources of electricity and is not as reliable as coal, natural gas, or nuclear -- all of which are cleaner and safer than the were even a decade ago.
The high cost of energy in New Jersey is the legislature looting residents.
@ByTheSeaJersey@NewJerseyOAG Off-shore wind costs $70-$180 MWh and only productive 40-60%.
Natural gas costs $40-$100 MWh and is available on demand (and will be needed to backup the wind farms).
Absent absurd legislative hurdles, new nuclear is $60-$100 MWh, 95% available, and greener than off-shore wind.
@relco72150698@vinlandwehrwolf All that done as a home owner, not as a licensed contractor. Some of the work required local permits and inspections, but I still did it all on my own.
@relco72150698@vinlandwehrwolf I've added entire new circuits in my home, replaced outlets and switches, replaced gas and electric water heaters, installed a new gas fireplace, installed bathrooms, replaced waste lines, ...
would any of that fly in the UK?
@relco72150698@vinlandwehrwolf I read somewhere that DIY was heavily frowned upon, if not illegal. Needing an inspector to check a changed light switch, for example.
@greggioia@EarthwormJFan@talexratcliffe If traffic is moving, and it doesn't slow you to get over, then get over.
If you aren't passing anyone you shouldn't be in the left lane anyway.
@EarthwormJFan@talexratcliffe If you're zipping down the highway and see a sign "lane closes in 1/4 mile", then yes move over as soon as you can.
If traffic has already slowed or even stopped, then use all of the road. No need to turn a 1/2 mile backup into a 1 mile backup because "that part closes soon".
@Ermengrabby@SaysSimulation > Second - people are core to civilization.
Core, yes, but certainly not the only requirement: you need people to have a civilization, but having people does not produce a civilization.
Having people that build things and keep records is what makes a civilization.
@AlexNowrasteh Your artificial meritocracy of Excel spreadsheets is propped up by millions of Americans with guns protecting you from the natural meritocracy of extreme violence. And your thanks is to dedicate your life to selling out their country from underneath them.
@SenDuckworth 1. Generals are politicians, not war-fighters.
2. Using actual relevant criteria always "targets women and minorities" who are only up for promotion because of non-relevant criteria, i.e. genitals and skin color.
