Today in 1993, ATF agents converged on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas. As they attempted to serve an arrest warrant, a gunfight erupted, and an attempt to enforce federal firearm restrictions resulted in ten deaths.

After the needless bloodshed, the state initiated a siege that lasted 51 days. As both parties negotiated terms to vacate the property, the FBI conducted psychological operations against those inside - a group which included over two dozen children.

The state cut power to the compound, attempted to deprive the residents of sleep through loud music, and even broadcasted sounds of rabbits being slaughtered to terrify those inside.

US Attorney General Janet Reno authorized tanks to flood the compound with tear gas on April 19.

Instead of encouraging evacuation, the decision backfired.

Those inside scrambled to protect their children and fled to enclosed areas.

Federal agents fired rounds into the compound on the same day, starting a massive fire that consumed the entire structure. The state denied firing any munitions, but infrared cameras captured the thermal signatures of many gunshots from the tanks.

As the compound burned, women and children burned alive in agony. In the end, the FBI's act of terrorism claimed 76 lives.

After the tragedy, federal agents took pictures in front of corpses that were still smoldering.

The Waco massacre is a terrible reminder of the murderous nature of US law enforcement agencies.

The victims of the siege will never have justice until the FBI and ATF are abolished and all gun control laws are repealed.

This catastrophe is not an ancient relic of the past without contemporary parallels. The modern push to ban "assault weapons" could create one thousand Waco sieges across our country.
