ANGER SUPPRESSANTS
We give thanks to Almighty Allah for His mercy upon us and we ask for His blessings over the Holy prophet Muhammad who Allah has endowed with the best of character.. He asserts this in the Quran by saying :

وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ
And verily, you (O Muhammad) are on an exalted standard of character..

We pray Allah blesses him, extend the blessings over to his family , his household , his companions and the generality of the muslims.
Anger is one of the bad character Allah created as fitnah for mankind. It is capable of destroying what has been constructed and putting into disorderliness what was once in order. How many a home has broken as a result of anger? How many a father or mother has cursed their children out of anger? How many Muslim brothers or sisters had abused eachother as a result of anger? How many a friend break path with his/her friend as a result anger? How many a speech has been wrongly altered due to anger? And How many how many how many do we want to count ?

One of the companions of the prophet came to seek the prophet's advice. He told him thus: " Do not get angry". Reported by Bukhari
Imam Ahmad also reported that another companion came to the prophet to seek advice and the prophet told him thus : "Do not get angry". The companion went to ponder on the short advice and later realised that anger encompasses all evil.. From this it could be deduced that the prophet was concise and brief in giving his advice. He doesn't need to mention all bad acts one after the other since he knows just one thing that combines what is referred to as evil.

Scholars of sunnah are on record to refer to anger as the key to evil and obviously you would know that whoever gets angry easily would posses a lot of bad characters.
As a result of this bad consequences , this honourable piece shall discuss the suppressants of anger as it is obtainable from the prophet of Islam. Listed below are the methods with which one can suppress ones anger ;

1⃣ KEEPING QUIET
The first easy way to suppress ones anger is to keep quiet. That is don't respond to the statement of the one you have encounter with.. It helps a lot in keeping one cool and calm.. The prophet said : Whenever anyone of you is angry , he should keep quiet!! He said it three times. This hadeeth was reported by Imam Ahmad and was graded saheeh by sheikh Albaniy in his silsilah. This means that one should try as much as possible to keep quiet when he's angry. Imam shafi in his poem said:

إذا نطق السفيه فلا تجبه **** و خير من إجابته السكوت
When the fool talks to you disrespectfully
Keeping silent in this case is better than responding.

2⃣ TRY TO OVERPOWER YOUR MIND
Another suppressant of anger is to try to overcome ones mind and soul.. To to safeguard you hand and and tongue and don't use them inappropriately .. The prophet said thus : The powerful is not the one who wrestles and wins, the powerful is the one who is able to overcome him/herself at the time of anger.. Reported by Bukhari and Muslim... In another report of Muslim , the prophet asked the companions who the powerful one is? They all answered and said : it is the one who wrestles and win. The prophet then said : It is that that!! It is the one who is able to overcome himself during anger.

These and other reports testifies that it is a very difficult task to overcome oneself at the time of anger.. One will therefore have to strengthen oneself and uphold this honourable act

3⃣ SEEKING REFUGE WITH ALLAH FROM SHAYTAAN
From inception , shaytan is known to cause disorderliness , Chaos among men.. So whenever one gets angry or provoked , another suppressant of anger is to seek refuge with Allah from shaytan. Allah says :

وَإِمَّا يَنْزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ نَزْغٌ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

And if an evil whisper comes to you from Shaitan (Satan) then seek refuge with Allah. Verily, He is All-Hearer, All-Knower.

Salman bn surad reported that two man embarrassed each other and we ( the companions) are seated around the prophet, one of them was abusing the other angrily and his eyes were reddish in colour. The prophet then said : I know of a word that if he had said, the anger would have gone away from him. He should have said: أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم.... The companions said to him: Didn't you hear the prophets statement then he replied : I am not mad.. Reported by Bukhari and Muslim

4⃣ CHANGE OF POSITION
Another good way of suppressing ones anger is to change ones position.. If one is seated before , he should stand up and vice versa.. The prophet was reported to have said: if one is angry, then let him sit down if he's standing, if the person still remain provoked , let him lie on his side.. Reported by Ahmad and Abu daawud and was authenticated by Sheikh Albaaniy.

5⃣ REMEMBERING ALLAH'S REWARD IF ONE KEEPS CALM
Another way of suppressing ones anger is to remember Allah's reward as to keeping calm when angry..Allah mentions thus :
وَلَا يَأْتَلِ أُولُو الْفَضْلِ مِنْكُمْ وَالسَّعَةِ أَنْ يُؤْتُوا أُولِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَالْمَسَاكِينَ وَالْمُهَاجِرِينَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۖ وَلْيَعْفُوا وَلْيَصْفَحُوا ۗ أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

And let not those among you who are blessed with graces and wealth swear not to give (any sort of help) to their kinsmen, Al-Masakin (the poor), and those who left their homes for Allah's Cause. Let them pardon and forgive. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

We also need to note here that this verse was revealed on Abubakr when he swore angrily not to feed mistalah again. Another verse worthy of note here is that one recorded in suratu Al - Imran where Allah says:
الَّذِينَ يُنْفِقُونَ فِي السَّرَّاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ وَالْكَاظِمِينَ الْغَيْظَ وَالْعَافِينَ عَنِ النَّاسِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Those who spend [in Allah's Cause - deeds of charity, alms, etc.] in prosperity and in adversity, who repress anger, and who pardon men; verily, Allah loves Al-Muhsinun (the good-doers).

These verses and others should therefore be remembered when one is angry because of the huge reward that is attainable there in. Imam Muslim also recorded that "No one will overlook the fault of another except that Allah increases the dignity of that person ".

6⃣ REMEMBERING ALLAH'S POWER OVER ONE AS ONE IS POWERFUL OVER ANOTHER PERSON
Another way of suppressing ones anger is to remember Allah's kudrah over oneself as one is angry and powerful to do and undo over ones subjects
Allah says:

إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ وَاذْكُرْ رَبَّكَ إِذَا نَسِيتَ وَقُلْ عَسَىٰ أَنْ يَهْدِيَنِ رَبِّي لِأَقْرَبَ مِنْ هَٰذَا رَشَدًا

Except (with the saying), "If Allah will!" And remember your Lord when you forget and say: "It may be that my Lord guides me unto a nearer way of truth than this."

Ikrimah , a well noted tafseer scholar says regarding this verse that it means one should remember Allah when one is angry. Also another verse which can be referred to is:

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا إِذَا مَسَّهُمْ طَائِفٌ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ تَذَكَّرُوا فَإِذَا هُمْ مُبْصِرُونَ

Verily, those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious - see V. 2:2), when an evil thought comes to them from Shaitan (Satan), they remember (Allah), and (indeed) they then see (aright).

Ibn Abbass said regarding this verse thus : toif means gadab which is anger..

Abi mas'udil ansaari said : I was beating a slave with a cane then I heard a voice from behind saying "you should Know abu mas'ud',you should know abu mas'ud" , I didn't recognise the voice because I was really angry then when I turned, I saw that it was the prophet then the cane fell from my hand out of fear then the prophet said :You should know Abu mas'ud that Allah is more powerful over you than you are over this slave then I said seeking Allahs mercy : He is free as. The prophet then said : if you had not done this, You will be tortured with fire. Abu mas'ud then said: I will never beat any slave of mine in my life. Reported by Muslim.

CONCLUSION

There is another hadith that was reported by Abu daawud but has been weakened by sheikh Albaaniy due to its weak chain of transmission. This hadeeth recommended that wudhu be performed when one is angry. This isn't authentic as said by sheikh Albaaniy

Conclusively, we pray Allah forgive our shortcomings, accept our deeds and make the sunnah easy for us. Ameen. Was salam 'alaykum warahmatulah wabarakaatuhu
