I hated my job in the first year of my career.
I would cry, fall sick, dream of spreadsheets chasing me, and, most importantly, hate working weekends.
I was so close to resigning.
Thank God for my Dad.
He would ‘perspire to aspire’ me every day.
He would say something like: ‘Those that are enjoying the job, what are they doing differently? Do you want to find out?’
So I managed through that phase.
Once I was out of the woods, it built me into a beast.
The tough environment built me.
Now I can sustain the calling over my life while thriving at a demanding job, building a thriving business and nurturing a young family.
I can hold my ground and execute ruthlessly on anything in front of me.
Resilience is such a key skill that keeps you thriving through uncertainty.
Dear Anonymous,
I spent my entire university life at ABU Zaria hitting back to back first class GPA for 6 semesters in Political Science. My very first GPA was 4.79/5.00 which was the overall best in the whole faculty of social science consisting of over 600 students. I maintained it for almost my entire university life.
Unfortunately, In the first semester of my final year, my CGPA dropped to 4.47 exactly like you, with just one semester to go (see my pinnned tweet). I needed a 5.00 GPA in the final semester including research project to achieve my dream of graduating with a first class and breaking the record in a program that no one believed first class was possible. I was stuck between giving up to avoid last minute heartbreak or try to break a longstanding record as first class in political science was impossible for over 40years and hitting 5.00 CGPA in final semester was something students used to say only God could achieve. The two final year courses were enough hell, but I also needed ‘A’ in research project which further complicated things. Hundreds have tried, Hundreds have failed. People used to mock me in the library saying “haba scholar, in the end it’s just second class upper” just like those who tried before me.
However, I remained focused and locked in with hardwork and prayers. I had to travel twice to my village, stayed for weeks without electricity just to get data for my final year project. I stayed back in school during first semester holiday while everyone else went home to their families. During the dark days of no light on campus, I used ABU streetlights to study outside. Sometimes, I entered the bush behind the hostel to sit around trees to study during exams when libraries got overcrowded (until snake killed one old woman). Those who were close to me said I was going crazy and nicknamed me “books”.
Today, I am proud to tell you that I have a record breaking first class degree from ABU which has changed my life forever. I featured in several newspapers & blogs for achieving the impossible, bagged a fully funded EU scholarship which resulted in me bagging two more first class degrees from the UK & Netherlands and currently working as the only black Analyst in my team at a silicon valley tech giant with a less than 1% global job acceptance rate.
All these dreams were possible because I didn’t give up
I didn’t listen to people
I worked hard and prayed and the almighty lifted me in his blessings.
I hope my story motivates you and others like you who are considering giving up.
And if you see this, please send me a DM I would like to know & support you personally.
Since everyone is sharing theirs, here are 5 things I think are worth your money as a corporate professional:
1. A quality work bag – You will use it almost every day.
2. Comfortable shoes – Long workdays are hard enough without sore feet.
3. Tailoring – Well-fitted clothes always look more polished than expensive ones.
4. A health investment – Annual check-ups, therapy, a gym membership, or a spa day. You can't pour from an empty cup.
5. Learning – Books, courses, or certifications that increase your earning potential.
DEAR NIGERIAN MEN,
READ!... EDUCATE YOURSELF!... AND STOP ALL THESE!
"She didn't spend more than five minutes in the labor room, which was possible because she stayed fit throughout her pregnancy."
Dear Mr Sir,
Not to burst your bubble, your wife didn't spend 5 minutes in the labour room because she was fit.
Now, this is coming from someone who have seen hundreds of women who are most likely fitter than your wife... some of which had prolonged labour and even had a c/section...
dear men, yall should start speaking like people who show empathy... people who give room for other women who aren't shaped like your wife.
Let me tell you why your wife had her baby in 5 minutes!
you had an average sized baby... probably not your first(maybe your first)... and the head of your baby down with good position of the head and labour progressed without her knowing...
She was probably 9-10cm before she got to the labour room... and if her waters were not broken... it'll get broken and she delivers...
Now, women with raised BMI(women you call fast) come in the labour room and deliver before 5 minutes!...
now, let all men read this and educate themselves.
Not all women have the same kind of body... infact abroad, Asia, Ireland and Europe as a whole ... so many women have raised BMI!... how do I know?... I've worked there!... many bigger than our African counterparts...
Now, yall should end body-shaming pregnant African women!
I fit tell you say I like dark skinned men, make you later see me with light skinned men.
I’m not a woman of my word.
Na who treat me right be my person😂🤲🏾
God please I need a proper big girl job. I love seeing high earning corporate women.
Their dresses, wigs, pants and shirts, bags, accessories and poise.
I’m suited for it oh Lord! You know I’m not lazy and I’m humble enough to learn
I just need one person to believe in me🙏
@adaezennaji_ Do not overthink it, especially the consistency part. Each time you get the opportunity to walk seize it. I walk too, when I first started I was consistent but now I just walk whenever I have the opportunity to. Results is slow but it's working.
In the first half of the year, I didn’t do a single chore in my apartment. I outsourced
I had classes from 9–6 every weekend, and on weekdays too at some point. After work, I’d study for another 3–4 hours. I didn’t cook either (shoutout to my mum and siblings ❤️)
I also pay a premium to live somewhere with 24/7 electricity. To some people, that sounds like unnecessary spending but I am buying my time, and my focus. The money I’ve spent is nothing compared to the results.
If you can afford it, buy yourself a life that makes it easier to become the person who earns and does way more.
@Sandraify6 This post made me remember about 2 weeks ago my mom bought raw fufu from the market for us to pound at home, I made sure she returned it the next day oo😂😂. Wdym pound fufu in 2026?? Even people that sell it at the market don't pound it anymore, they use machines.
The woman I’m dating stayed over one night.
The next morning, she got out of bed, stepped onto my bedroom floor, and let out this little yelp.
“Ow… your floor is freezing cold.”
Then she laughed and tiptoed all the way to the bathroom to brush her teeth.
I just stood there watching her.
I didn’t say anything.
But I remembered it.
The following week, I bought a soft little rug and placed it on her side of the bed.
Right where she always gets up.
A few days later, she stayed over again.
