Today marks an important milestone in Uganda's Ebola response as the last confirmed Ebola patient has been discharged after testing negative, beginning the 42-day countdown towards the declaration of the end of the outbreak.

Uganda Red Cross Society congratulates the Ministry of Health, health workers, affected communities, volunteers, partners, and all responders whose dedication has brought the country to this significant point.

While we celebrate this progress, our work is not over. With the continued risk of cross-border transmission, Uganda Red Cross remains committed to supporting preparedness efforts alongside the Ministry of Health and partners through community engagement, risk communication, volunteer mobilization, surveillance support, and readiness to respond should new cases arise.

We are grateful to our Red Cross Movement partners, donors, and all those who continue to support preparedness and response efforts, helping communities stay informed, resilient, and protected.

We encourage everyone to remain vigilant, report symptoms early, and seek medical care immediately if unwell. Let's continue working together to protect our communities and keep Uganda safe.

As of today, a new strain of Ebola virus disease has been declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern by the World Health Organization @WHO

Uganda has so far recorded two imported cases linked to travel from the Democratic Republic of Congo. One patient passed away on 15 May 2026 and was repatriated, while the second patient is currently receiving treatment in Uganda, under close medical supervision.

The Uganda Red Cross Society remains actively engaged in supporting national response efforts through strengthened community engagement, risk communication, surveillance, active case finding, and screening at border points of entry, in coordination with relevant authorities.

A casualty (an injured or ill person) may need a shock blanket also called an emergency or thermal blanket when showing signs of shock or at risk of losing body heat.

While a shock blanket does not treat shock itself, it helps reduce heat loss and prevents the condition from worsening while awaiting further medical care.

Today during the #AbsaKH37HillsRun, we used a shock blanket to help preserve body heat, provide comfort, and support casualty care before further assessment and management.
