Children should learn techniques and skills to helpthem critically think& analyze the information they receive, so that they can avoid spreading and internalizing things that aren’t true or that are prejudiced #lesson12
Given that the internet connects us globally , I think we should aim to spread positivity . It is important to help people hear about the reality happening around the world. We should do so in a way that avoids pinning people against each other, or some as inferior etc #lesson12
I agree , but I think that children do internalize some of these things , and so we should still talk to them about reality in a way that they’ll understand.
In one of my other classes , we were talking about Disney as well, and my professor mentioned that Walt Disney himself was actually just plain Openly racist himself. After he died things begun getting better in terms of representation at disney #lesson11
I think Disney has begun to get a little better in terms of gender & cultural representations, but it still has a long way to go. & we still don’t have many , female heroes, lgbtq members , or people from minority groups as having the lead role. #lesson11
I think most of us know this by now, but many, i’m not sure if all Disney movies actually come from dark stories that are awful in reality. Disney made them into “ nice children’s stories” #lesson11
I think the fact that Disney is so big and popular , has a massive effect on the stories it tells. Most people see Disney movies as completely good & innocent, so of course they want to continue portraying that image. They don’t wanna be seen as the bad guys. #Lesson11
@SarahM14452625 @Vivek32482 That’s the most problematic part of it all. Its like women are supposed to consult men for every decision they make. We’re supposed to dress “ modestly “ so they won’t want to rape us? Not wear makeup so that they don’t feel tricked by gold eyelids? Where is the logic?
The way a woman dresses does not determine how she wants to be treated by others. Showing skin does not mean a woman wishes to be verbally disrespected , harassed and she definitely does not wish to be raped. That should not even be considered in court cases. #lesson10
@Vivek32482 Yes! feeling comfortable in less clothing does not make you less worthy of respect than someone who enjoys covering up every inch of their body.
Feminism on social media has an important value to some & is less respected by others, because a lot of anti- feminists view the concept as " man hating" when in fact it is not that at all. #lesson10
I believe in equality. Just like men, women should be able to engage in any job, activity, or sport it may be, without being looked at in a certain way. Same goes for the way women dress, whether they feel comfortable fully clothed or showing off some skin.. it is a CHOICE #L10
To increase awareness of privacy , I think schools should have classes or workshops available teaching students how to stay safe on the internet and talk to them about the consequences, with examples of things that have actually happened, to really get it through to them #lesson9
I think regardless of how “ safe” and cautious you are online, there is always a risk. Even if you delete something, there is a chance that someone else has some kind of record of it. In the wrong hands, this is very dangerous. #lesson9
