It's Just a Ball: Exploring the Complexity of a Simple Game (Soccer Coaching): Townsend, Jon: 9781911121930: https://t.co/zjlJZhBZIP: Books https://t.co/DVkKbShhxt
@jon_townsend3@ItsJustABall Truth- I was an American college football player who met a girl that played all the way up to club at OSU. After my time in the USMC, we met, fell in love and the rest of Futbol history. I’ve played now for 23yrs, coached for 11. Absolutely love your book and perspective.
Thank you to all the friends who recently grabbed a copy of my book. Please leave a review on Amazon in the near future if you enjoyed. It may not seem like a big deal, but to authors, it means the world🙏🍻📝🙏
@ReginaldDCole 💯 I’ve always believed in the law of specificity in most facets of disciplined pursuits. This includes instruction and guidance.
the greater the similarity between practice & the desired performance, the more effective it is. Understand what you want to be good at and practice
Question for coaches of players 13+ years of age:
Do you ever ask players to study a player, system, team, facet of the game?
If so, what criteria do you consider “studying” the game?
YouTube? Books? Articles? Game film?
@ReginaldDCole That’s great feedback. Thank you for sharing. Those are really important distinctions, too. I’ve fallen into the trap of thinking lower skilled players who were eager to improve would be eager learners off the field. They were reluctant learners/readers on soccer material.
Second show of the day starts recording in about an hour as I talked with author and nice football man @jon_townsend3 about the state of the sport over here and how much it sucks to break a leg. Got a question for us? Leave it here now while I edit and produce the big CROpod.
🎙️ The Day of Endless CROpod continues and I sit down for a chat with @jon_townsend3. Injuries on the park and other oddities of local football scenes gives way to a lengthy discussion about how broken US Soccer is. Wherever you get your podcasts. https://t.co/tNUXoBu9Sb
US Soccer is an absolute fucking nightmare that no one throughout the organization can actually fix because they don't really want to. Me and @jon_townsend3 talked about that and more in a 1-hour conversation today.

@philamaniac This is fantastic! I’m glad it resonated with you…appreciate the feedback and happy that it’s impacted you directly (or it’s something you can relate to!)
I have been very fortunate over the years to have worked with many good players. Truly humbled to have received a copy of “It’s Just a Ball” by author, former player of mine and student of the game, @jon_townsend3. Thank you so very much for the gift and the continued friendship.
