We know that some species persist🐦⬛while others go extinct 🦤... But do we truly know which traits make some species more vulnerable?

AVOTREX: A global dataset of extinct birds and their traits.
🦤🌍 The dataset includes 610 extinct birds from last 130k years. This dataset includes details on species traits, mirroring the morphological data available for extant species in AVONET (1/8)

AVOTREX is out: an open-access companion to AVONET containing morphological traits for ~600 extinct bird species and a phylogeny grafting these taxa onto the global bird tree to support future research on Anthropogenic extinctions. Hat-tip to many co-authors; led by @FerranSayol
Very pleased to see AVOTREX out in @GEB_macro - huge dataset of >600 extinct birds from the past 130,000 and their traits/phylogenic positioning, excellently led by @FerranSayol https://t.co/117vSnmctJ
New research on the Global Impacts of Bird Extinctions 🌍🦜🦤

A summary of our findings below 🧵(1/9)
Last month, I had the pleasure of presenting my work at the first Science Pride of Tarragona #Tarrakweers@ScienceQueers . I discussed how current technology allows us to reconstruct the morphology, ecology and behaviour of extinct species.

Thrilled to present my latest work on Extinction Selectivity in Columbiformes at the XXIII Jornades de Biologia Evolutiva, organized by @SCB_iec@iec! Grateful for all the incredible talks and discussions during the conference.

Contentíssima del resultat ❤️🩹
We're so curious about our new project led by @FerranSayol 😮👀 With innovative tracking and analysis, it will explore the impact of feral cats on Catalonia's natural environment to boost conservation efforts. Follow its trail! 🐈⬛🐈🔎https://t.co/f1acwYOT9w
This work would not have been possible without support, help and insights of @FerranSayol and @OriolLG. Also grateful to the whole Lapiedra's team (@CasbasGuillem, Marc Vez and Iwona Giska).

Our study improves our understanding of extinction risk by challenging long-held assumptions: the traits making species vulnerable to extinction today are not the same that made others become extinct in the past.
