On this day in 1982, the British Task Force flagship HMS Hermes returned to Portsmouth following service in the Falklands War.
Greeted by a flotilla of small boats and thousands of people, Hermes replied with a 17-gun salute. 🇫🇰🇬🇧

In 2013, Falkland Islanders voted definitively (99.8%) to remain a UK Overseas Territory. 🇫🇰🇬🇧

Arrow and her crew were greeted by 10,000 people lining The Hoe and were saluted by the RAF Red Arrows in recognition of their service. 🇫🇰🇬🇧
