Hyderabad Zoo Observes World Snake Day; Houses 20 Snake Species

#Hyderabad: Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, observed World Snake Day on July 16, 2025, with an awareness program at the #ReptileHouseAmphitheatre. Around 700 school students and 600 visitors attended the event, where Education Officer M. Deepak Tarun conducted a live snake demonstration, explaining their habitat, behavior, identification, and safety measures.

The zoo houses 20 species of snakes, including King Cobra, Spectacled Cobra, Bamboo Pit Viper, Russell's Viper, Krait, Indian Rock Python, Rat Snake, and Sand Boa. Other reptiles include Green Iguana, Chameleon, Flap Shell Turtle, Star Tortoise, Bengal Monitor Lizard, and Water Monitor Lizard. Director Dr. Sunil S. Hiremath highlighted the zoo's glass-enclosed reptile house and praised the efforts of the zoo staff.

#mrugavani_national_park, established in 1988 by the then CM Dr NT Rama Rao. The #park was given #national park status in 1998. Park is situated between two lakes #osmansagar and #himayatsagar. They are historic and are the prime fresh water source since estwhile #hyderabad.
