The Met Police have paid £25,000 in compensation to Graham Linehan and offered him an unreserved apology.

This comes after Scotland Yard accepted there were “shortcomings in the investigation, the arrest and the imposition of bail conditions”.

Last September, the Father Ted creator was arrested by five armed police officers as he landed at Heathrow Airport over three gender-critical posts he had made on X.

He was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence, detained and questioned for several hours before being rushed to hospital after his blood pressure rose dangerously high.

Graham was released but placed under draconian bail conditions, which initially included a ban on posting on X.

With the support of the Free Speech Union, Graham took legal action against the Met Police for wrongful arrest and breaches of his right to free speech.

Although Graham received an apology in May, he has now also received a £25,000 payout and a further unreserved apology.

In a letter to Mr Linehan, a senior Met officer wrote: “Whilst there can be no doubt that all officers acted in good faith throughout and were seeking to do their best in the circumstances, the investigation identified shortcomings in both the investigation, arrest and imposition of bail conditions.

“We apologise to you for those shortcomings and for the distress and inconvenience which you suffered as a result.”

General Secretary of the Free Speech Union, Lord Young, said: “I’m beginning to lose count of the number of cases we’ve fought in which the police have arrested someone for a tweet, decided to take no further action and then had to pay them substantial compensation for wrongful arrest.

“At some point you’d think the penny would drop: police our streets, not our tweets.”

Labour MP Afzal Khan has reported Rupert Lowe to the parliamentary authorities over his comments about Islam on the Joe Rogan podcast.

Khan appears to have an issue with people who are critical of Islam, but not with men who rape children.

NHS FRAUD CAUGHT ON CAMERA, NOBODY CARED

Sharmila Chowdhury @sharmilaxx gave the @NHS 30 years of clean service. Not one blemish. Then she did something apparently unforgivable. She noticed two consultant radiologists at Ealing Hospital, now part of London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust @LNWH_NHS, were billing the NHS for shifts they were actually spending at a private hospital down the road.

Getting paid twice for the same hours. That is fraud everywhere except, it turns out, inside the NHS complaints system.

She reported it. To her line manager. To the Medical Director. To the HR Director. To Counter Fraud. To the Chief Executive. To Number 10. To the Treasury. She built a paper trail so thorough that ITV @itvnews later sent an undercover team into the hospital and filmed the same consultants years on, still taking cash from patients for private ultrasounds inside NHS premises.

The Trust's response to all that diligence was to sack her, based on counter allegations later shown to be fabricated.

The man behind those allegations reportedly signed off an email too crude to print here ..........

....... He picked up a Top Mentor award from the Trust that same year. You could not write comedy this good on purpose.

Sharmila took it to tribunal and won. She won her appeal too. The judge told the Trust to reinstate her. The Trust said no. She was then quietly blacklisted across the NHS. One job offer was withdrawn the moment they worked out who she was. Legal costs hit £130,000.

Somewhere in the middle of it she developed breast and lung cancer, which her doctors link to years of sustained stress.

The two consultants kept their jobs. George Osborne could not get involved. Andrew Lansley could not get involved. David Cameron could not get involved. Every one of them filed it under employment matter, which is Whitehall for we would rather not know.

A proven fraud case, covered by ITV @itvnews, the Guardian, Daily Mail @DailyMail, Channel 4 News @Channel4News, the Independent @Independent, BBC News @BBCNews, the Times @thetimes and the Daily Mirror @DailyMirror. The official position of Her Majesty's Government was still not our problem.

ROBIN COOK QUIT OVER A WAR DIED ON A SCOTTISH HILL AND THE CASE CLOSED BEFORE TEA TIME

Robin Cook spent his career being right at the worst possible time for his career.

In March 2003 he resigned as Leader of the Commons rather than back the Iraq War. His resignation speech got a standing ovation from MPs on all sides, something that had never happened in the chamber before.

He spent the next two years telling anyone who would listen that Tony Blair had marched Britain into a war built on nothing.

Two years later he was dead.

6 August 2005. Ben Stack, a remote mountain in Sutherland. Cook collapsed of a heart attack while hillwalking with his wife Gaynor, fell down a ridge, and was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where he was pronounced dead within the hour.

The post mortem two days later gave the cause as hypertensive heart disease. Police on the scene treated it as a medical matter and that was the end of their involvement.

No inquest reopening. No criminal inquiry. Just a senior politician who had publicly humiliated the government over an illegal war, dropping dead in one of the most remote spots in the country, with the official file shut almost as fast as it was opened.

Norman Baker, the Lib Dem MP and later Home Office minister who spent years digging into the death of weapons inspector David Kelly, said in 2007 that Cook had been on Ministry of Defence linked land when he died and that he had real doubts about the official account.

He got called a conspiracy theorist for asking the question. Funny how that label only gets handed out to the people asking questions, never to the people refusing to answer them.

Then there is the bit nobody mentions enough. Starting in 2020, someone filed Freedom of Information requests with Police Scotland asking for the basic details of that day.

What time officers were alerted. Whether witnesses were interviewed. Whether the people who came to help Gaynor Cook were ever identified. Police Scotland refused. The case went to the Scottish Information Commissioner, who in 2021 and again in 2022 sided with the police and let them keep it sealed under a legal exemption.

So twenty years on, the basic facts of how a former Foreign Secretary actually died on a hillside are still officially none of your business.

That is not evidence of a murder BUT it is evidence of an institution that would rather you stop asking than ever have to answer.

Britain does not need conspiracy theories when the real story is this embarrassing on its own.
