Yeah, this is why I think code is going to largely go away the same way that machine code has largely left our purview. We’re already doing a work in the area of visualization and narrative engineering exploring new ways to understand what’s happening. But I think, just my gut feeling, source code itself will become more of an intermediate representation and not something people actually work with in their hands. I think that world looks completely different maybe different languages even or a different architecture.

My take is that we’re actually thinking about two different things. I think the AGI label is just a big confusing mess first of all. But I do think we’re talking about two different things. One group of people are trying to solve the scientific definition of intelligence. They’re trying to win a science fair project. And another group of people are just trying to get something to work intelligently. Whether or not a child is smarter than AI is largely irrelevant in the task of building, intelligent infrastructure. It’s not unimportant and it’s not invalid but I don’t think some of these questions of conversation conversations are exactly relevant to everyone. Again, my example is the transistor. On his face it’s not that impressive but it was used that scale in elegant ways to build the digital world. I kind of think that’s what’s happening here.
