If we're being honest, Alex Onyia has done quite enough for Nigerian kids.

This guy singlehandedly rescued the future of more than 379,000 kids who were victims of JAMB glitches.

These students received outrageously low scores from JAMB and Alex Onyia being an expert in the field, questioned the low scores some of these kids were getting because he knows their capacity.

He called out JAMB, pushed for remarking, presented his evidence.

Eventually, JAMB conceded. The registrar apologised on live tv and blamed the mistake on server updates.

The affected sat the exam again and aced it.

That's real impact there.

Oyerinde Damaris Oluwasemilore was one, out of the three girls; Sampson Abasiofun Otobong and Chimfunanya Aghaduno, who represented Nigeria at the EGMO (European Girls Mathematics Olympiad) in France earlier this year, under the umbrella of @SpecialMaths and team leadership of @Mmesomachi1.

This faux outrage would have been useful if most of you instigators actually cared about mathematics education in this country, instead you’re using gifted kids as pawns for your stupid agenda.

This JSS 3 boy, Victor Onwubiko, has finished K.A. Stroud’s _Engineering Mathematics_ back to back. He is the best mathematician in the country at the junior secondary level.

He will be competing with students from 154 other countries this week in Rome, Italy, at the fierce International STEM Olympiad competition.

He is a genius, and the world will celebrate him.

In Ghana, any child who qualifies to represent the country in the International Maths Olympiad gets an automatic scholarship to MIT.

Interestingly, the head of their local Olympiad unit is a Nigerian. He left Nigeria the moment the Nigerian government stopped sponsoring our students for the program.

MIT students regularly travel to Ghana to prepare their students for the Olympiad.

It is also a huge talent pipeline for a company called Jane Street. They are the major sponsor for Ghana Maths Olympiad. Their starting salary is between $300k - $600k annually.

1. A friend came to stay the weekend with us at Doctors’ Quarters in UNIBEN in 1988. We didn't know he was allergic to eggs, and someone used the same oil that had been used to fry eggs to fry plantains. He ate the plantains and started immediately looking like the Michelin Man. Our landlord (a doctor) saved him with Hydrocortisone.

2. My youngest sister came to Accra for a visit and decided to do her hair. Some overzealous hairdresser decided she needed to dye her hair. The dye touched her scalp and she lost most of her hair while her head swelled double. She ended up in hospital for days.

3. I ate some fried meat balls in Togo in 2021 and went into shock. I recovered in hospital 8 hours later. Ended up in Accra and in hospital for a week. I don't eat processed meat till today.

4. Also me, earlier this year. I ate too much groundnuts and had a swollen neck. Ended up in hospital with complications including anaemia.

People die of allergies in Africa regularly and they call it “witchcraft.”

As a Nigerian, I find it absurd that since 2022, Peter Obi has been the only major front-runner relentlessly grilled, constantly interviewed, and forced to engage the public at every turn. Meanwhile, Atiku and Tinubu seem to glide by without facing anything close to the same scrutiny. What exactly is going on here? Do they believe they are too important to be questioned, or are their supporters simply more comfortable shielding them from accountability and public scrutiny?

Nobody hears from the president, who sits on high Mount Olympus and only graces Nigerians with carefully scripted appearances and distant press statements from Bayo Onanuga, as though leadership is a privilege to be admired from afar rather than a responsibility to be constantly examined. Atiku is no different, equally distant, equally insulated, and just as unwilling to submit himself to the kind of sustained, unscripted engagement that true leadership demands.

My Prime Minister, Carney, faces the press almost daily and endures relentless grilling from the opposition in Parliament on virtually every issue. That is what accountability looks like in a functioning democracy.

Tinubu, on the other hand, answers to no one.
