SALUTATIONS TO MAHALAXMI
117,000 americans made over $1 million in a single year with zero employees. one person, one laptop, no team
none of them are smarter than you. they started before they felt ready
you don't need money to start this. you need a $20 claude subscription and a few weeks of phone calls
1 in 6 US small businesses still has no website. roofers, barbers, auto shops with 100+ reviews sending people to a facebook page
you build their site before they ask, show it to them, and charge for it. here's my playbook, step by step
1. leads
one niche, one city. trades, salons, barbers and auto repair close. restaurants don't, their margins are too thin
keep only 4.5+ stars, 50+ reviews, reviews from the last 3 months, and a facebook page or a broken site instead of a real one
do the first 20 by hand on google maps. after that, outscraper's google maps scraper with an empty website filter, 500 businesses a month free
2. skills
claude code comes with the $20 plan. inside it run:
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills
/plugin install example-skills@anthropic-agent-skills
that installs frontend-design, anthropic's own skill for sites that don't look AI made
npx skills add https://t.co/XcwTbCxn6e for animation
claude mcp add playwright npx @playwright/mcp@latest so claude screenshots its own work on a phone and a laptop
npx impeccable skills install, then /impeccable init and /impeccable audit to flag what still looks generated
3. build
open framer's restaurant templates, awwwards food & drink and one page love. copy the order of the sections and leave the look
then paste:
"use the frontend-design skill. build a one page site for [business] in [city]: [services, prices, hours, phone, service area, 3 real review quotes with first names]. colors from their trade, not a template. one hero animation with gsap splittext and nothing fading in on every section. respect reduced motion and never hide the headline before js loads. big call button on mobile. write the copy the way the owner talks, no 'welcome to our website'. placeholder images, not their google photos. screenshot at 390px and 1440px with playwright and fix anything generic before you show me"
4. hosting
cloudflare pages is free and allows commercial use. vercel's free plan doesn't
npx wrangler login
npx wrangler pages deploy ./site --project-name=[business]-concept
put "concept for [business]" in the footer, add noindex or a password, and never buy their domain. it's their name and their reviews on that page
5. pitch
call first, only to get the owner's email: "i made a new site for your shop, can i send you the link?"
then send the link and a 2 minute loom of it on a phone
dial by hand and never text them, cold texts can get you sued
every cold email needs your address and an unsubscribe line, that's CAN-SPAM
price it like a real agency, because that's what you are now: $3,000 to $4,000 for the site, $150/mo for hosting and changes. 50% upfront and a one page contract
100 demos turns into 2 or 3 signed clients. at $3,500 that's $7,000 to $10,500 a month from calls alone, and every client adds $150 a month on top. keep that pace for a year and you're running a $100k business from your laptop
owners get "we built you a website" calls every week. you win by bringing what the other guys don't
for a barber or a restaurant that's a card on the counter. a customer taps it with their phone and google maps opens straight on the review screen. more good reviews put them higher on maps, and higher on maps means more people walking in. an nfc card costs about a dollar, put a qr code on the back for older phones
then one or two things like that inside the site: prices they change in a google sheet without calling you, an "open now" badge from their real hours, a before and after slider for a roofer
you know websites, they know their customers. tell them what you changed and why in plain words, and ask what they don't like before they pay. a headline is easy to fix on day one, a client who stayed quiet for a month is gone
start with a few businesses on your street
