@gregmcbeth Kids obsessing over EV is crazy. But at the high school level it's because of the inventive stricture. Pros care about measurables, so colleges care about them, colleges recruit measurables, so high schoolers optimize for them. Change the incentives to change the behavior.
@RyanCyn@Challenger_ST I don't know if it's "play more baseball" so much as it's "develop baseball skills" - many of which can be improved off the field. The reality is if measurables are below average then general athleticism isn't likely to be enough to open the door to the next level.
@Challenger_ST@RyanCyn Kyle Boddy said most people get the correlation backwards. They hear that a pro athlete played 3 sports in high school so they assume that's the way to do it; but the pro is likely a generic outlier. He played three sports because he was born to be a pro.
@RyanCyn@Challenger_ST The question is the direction of the correlation: does playing multiple sports cause the kid to become a better athlete or are naturally gifted athletes able to play multiple sports effortlessly?
@DanBFox1287 I'm on to Cincinnati. I like this team. It'll be a different style than we're accustomed to. But I respect that Breslow's Plan B wasn't a cut rate version of Bregman, but rather a different strategy entirely. And he has stuck with that approach. I like that commitment.

@Shneebs2022@TolleEnthusiast We won't do it because Breslow went on record saying Story is his shortstop, and after the Devers situation last year, he can't walk back that commitment so soon. But from a baseball standpoint, your answer is the right answer.
@BenVerlander We prevented another Mookie situation by locking up Roman. Payroll hovers at the second threshold line. They've spent. Maybe not with the two caveats you attached. But they have spent.
