Women city managers face a glass cliff as local governments are more likely to hire them when budgets are collapsing find @katelangyang@jconla and @lauraeconnolly_ https://t.co/NibWiCNhSx
The Super Bowl has to be the breaking point.
There is not enough cognitive dissonance in the world to maintain harsh restrictions on children after last night.
It’s time to take a stand.
No more mask mandates, no more outdoor lunch.
Back to 100% normal for our kids!
@MPTeodoro Same for me. It’s so challenging to read the room. It also takes me significantly longer to learn names because I never see the students’ faces.
Short thread: Concerned public-school parent and @UCBerkeley Ph.D. in poli sci here. We should all support approaches driven by sound data science. So it's a big problem that the evidence @AmerAcadPeds' uses to recommend absolute indoor masking (fn 4) is a @cdc study 1/2
Update from the Fargo, North Dakota masking study:
Two neighboring K-12 districts (same community) both with around 12,000 students

Excited to see this article published online. I enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with two talented coauthors: state and local fiscal performance scholar @katelangyang and labor economist @lauraeconnolly_ (who is also my sister).

@carly_urban I once got an email from @katelangyang sharing a research collaboration idea stemming from an article I had recently published. We talked, added @lauraeconnolly_ to the team, and our article was just published this week! I’d say, don’t be afraid to reach out, even to new people.
When the World Health Organization and UNICEF said not to mask kids under 6, the CDC and American Academy of Pediatrics said... we will do it anyway.
Apparently, we prefer to fire up a culture war with no credible data, and harm toddlers in the process

Across the Jackson Health System hospitals, we currently have 327 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Of those, 187 patients – or 57 percent – are admitted to the hospital primarily for non-COVID reasons.
@BBrunjes@PAReview This is really interesting work, Ben. I will use this paper in future MPA courses - I think the UM students will find the Florida data especially relevant. Thanks for sharing.
Hello @NewsandRecord - is it possible to buy a print copy of the Sunday July 11 edition. A loved one’s obituary ran that day and we would really like a copy. Thank you.
@DaveMitchellUCF @HannahLebovits In other words, the prevalence of CM firings is probably not the best way to measure if/how CMs are held accountable by councils because many CMs will preempt a possible termination by voluntarily resigning first. This is a research project idea I’d love to talk more about!
@DaveMitchellUCF @HannahLebovits This is especially true for CMs due little/no severance if fired by council. Many CMs “see the writing on the wall” and prefer to leave voluntarily than go through a formal termination. I’d argue they also wish to move on to seek a job working for a council that supports them.
