The previous first half low was 77, in 1977. Even adjusting for the massive population loss since then, this is the lowest murder rate since 1978 when William Donald Schaefer was mayor

Baltimore ended the first half of 2022 with 179 homicides, the worst first half of a year on record (since 1970).
Baltimore just ended the first half of 2025 with 68 homicides, which is the fewest on record.
That’s a 62 percent drop from 2022-2025
