@KevG163 I actually saw a lot of hockey fans in jerseys or sweaters before I ever saw many football jerseys in the stands.

@KevG163 At that time football game day wear was still mostly knit beanies. Sporting goods stores carried mostly equipment up until the 70s then slowly started stocking jerseys hats and jackets. Again Starter jackets were the hot items.
