Two terrified Kashmiri students pursuing their studies under PMSSS Scheme are allegedly facing continuous harassment, intimidation and pressure to vacate their accommodation at Shanti Homes Colony, Korand Gandhi Nagar, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Both students are pursuing pharmacy studies at TRUBA Institute of Pharmacy, Bhopal. They were selected under PMSSS. Although hostel accommodation was allotted to them under the scheme, the college currently does not have hostel facilities available, forcing them to reside in a paying-guest accommodation since last year.

According to the students, members of the local colony/society and other fringe elements have been continuously pressuring their landlord to evict them just because they are from Kashmir and are Muslims. They further allege that the landlord has been warned that, if the students are not removed immediately, the individuals will forcibly enter the premises and throw them out. The fear is so intense that they are unable to leave their accommodation, travel, or even attend college.

The students approached their college authorities seeking help and intervention, but no meaningful assistance was provided. They have consequently been left in a vulnerable situation, uncertain about where they can safely stay and whether they can continue their education without fear.

No student should ever have to choose between their safety and their education. No young person should be threatened with eviction, intimidation or physical harm because of their religion, identity or place of origin. Nor should Kashmiri students be compelled to seek segregated accommodation simply because they are Kashmiris or Muslims.

I urge MP Chief Minister @DrMohanYadav51 ji, @DGP_MP MP Kailash Makwana Ji to intervene immediately, verify the allegations on the ground, ensure the students’ safety and security, and take strict legal action against anyone found involved in threats, intimidation, coercion or discriminatory harassment.

The authorities must also immediately coordinate with the college and ensure that the students are provided safe and suitable accommodation near their institution. If hostel accommodation is presently unavailable, an appropriate alternative must be arranged so that their education is not disrupted.

The college administration also has a responsibility towards students studying under PMSSS. When students approach their institution saying that they fear for their safety, their concerns must be treated with urgency, sensitivity and seriousness, rather than leaving them to navigate a potentially dangerous situation on their own.

We appeal to the MP Govt to ensure that neither student is forced to leave their accommodation under pressure or intimidation until a safe alternative has been arranged. Their academic year, mental peace and future must not be jeopardised because of circumstances beyond their control.

Kashmiri students are equal citizens of India. They have every right to study, live and pursue their dreams anywhere in the country without fear, harassment, discrimination or intimidation. The responsibility of the state is to ensure that every student, irrespective of religion, region or identity, feels safe and protected.

It is deeply saddening that some people want Kashmir, but not Kashmiris. Nothing can damage the idea of India in Kashmir more than incidents where Kashmiri students are made to feel unsafe, unwanted or unwelcome elsewhere in the country.

We appeal to the Govt to act before the situation escalates. A threat to students’ safety cannot be allowed to become a threat to their education or their lives.

Ahead of the Cabinet meeting scheduled on Wednesday to deliberate on the reservation issue, we hope Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah Sb. ensures that any proposed changes do not hit or disadvantage any particular community. We are not against reservation as a principle and fully recognise its role in uplifting historically marginalised sections; however, the policy must embody equity, fairness, and justice for all groups.

We have already prepared and submitted a comprehensive research report, including several recommendations to the Chief Minister’s Office on how to make the system more transparent, data-driven, and socially balanced.

We also hope that the Chief Minister will initiate a comprehensive caste-based socio-economic census, similar to the recent exercises conducted in Karnataka, Telangana, and other states. Without accurate and up-to-date data, the reservation framework will remain guess-based rather than evidence-based, and the absence of credible figures can lead to policy distortions that may affect both reserved and open-merit communities. A scientific census would provide the government with a reliable foundation for equitable restructuring.

We hope that the upcoming reservation policy draft report will not adversely impact Kashmiri-speaking people. Any policy that inadvertently sidelines or disadvantages could create a sense of alienation and imbalance. We therefore expect a sensitive, inclusive, and regionally aware approach that protects the rights and opportunities of all communities.

Any reform must be proportionate, grounded in real socio-economic data, and mindful of the aspirations of both reserved and open-merit categories, ensuring that deserving candidates are not deprived of opportunities. We remain hopeful that the Cabinet will take a holistic and inclusive view while reviewing the reservation framework, keeping in mind regional diversity, community sensitivities, and the broader educational landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.

Three separate incidents of harassment against Kashmiri shawl and walnut sellers have occurred within a span of just 24 hours; one in Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand), another in Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), and a third in Ludhiana (Punjab).

In Uttarkashi, a local right-wing activist named Rakesh levelled unsubstantiated allegations against Kashmiri street vendors, accusing them of operating without police verification. He made several inflammatory claims, demanding compulsory police checks for all Kashmiri vendors and even insinuating; without any evidence whatsoever; that they could be involved in activities beyond selling shawls, including arms-related suspicions. Such irresponsible rhetoric fuels mistrust, deepens prejudice, and puts the lives and livelihoods of ordinary workers; who have been living and working peacefully for years at grave risk.

In Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, two Kashmiri youths were confronted by members of Bajrang Dal; subsequently, the police detained them, interrogated them, and seized their Aadhaar cards, identity documents, and mobile phones for verification. This incident raises serious concerns about rampant vigilantism, profiling of minorities, and the troubling trend of right wing groups taking on law-enforcement roles.

In Ludhiana, Punjab, a labourer from Kulgam, Kashmir, was allegedly assaulted after he reported that several boxes of walnuts he was transporting had gone missing. Instead of receiving help, he was met with violence. These incidents reflect a deeply troubling pattern of dehumanisation and targeted harassment.

We urge the Chief Ministers of Uttarakhand @pushkardhami, Uttar Pradesh @myogiadityanath, and Punjab @BhagwantMann to take immediate and decisive action. They must ensure the safety and dignity of Kashmiri workers, order impartial inquiries into these incidents, hold those responsible accountable; and direct the administration to put an end to all forms of discriminatory conduct.

Preventive steps must be taken to stop any actions or rhetoric that could further fuel mistrust, vigilantism, or communal tension. Protecting vulnerable workers is not just a matter of governance; it is a test of our collective humanity and commitment to the idea of India.

Spoke to Dainik Jagran in detail regarding the situation in Delhi, growing collective suspicion, hate profiling, and harassment faced by Kashmiri students Nationwide.

We unequivocally condemn this barbaric act of terror. Kashmiri students have always rejected separatism, secessionism, radicalisation, and every ideology that seeks to divide or weaken our country. We have never condoned violence, nor endorsed any secessionist tendencies.

Kashmiri students firmly believe in India’s democracy and its mainstream values. They reject violence in all forms. Yet, despite this, they are being profiled, targeted, and vilified by certain authorities and local residents. Many landlords have asked Kashmiri tenants to vacate their rooms, forcing several students to return home out of fear and uncertainty.

Anyone involved in this heinous act directly or indirectly is neither a friend of Kashmir nor of any religious community. Terror has no religion, no region, and no identity. Those who believe that such actions gain legitimacy in or around Kashmir are gravely mistaken.

While law-enforcement agencies must be allowed to investigate freely and thoroughly, innocent Kashmiris must not be made to bear the burden of suspicion. Collective blame does not strengthen national security; unity, trust, fairness, and justice do.

Kashmiri shawl sellers in Himachal Pradesh are reportedly facing harassment and profiling, post Unfortunate Delhi Blast, with several vendors alleging that local panchayat authorities, right wing groups and individuals are forcibly checking their bags under unfounded suspicions of carrying weapons or explosives. Many sellers say they are being restricted from moving freely without prior verification from the panchayat and local police, creating an atmosphere of fear, insecurity, and unnecessary constraints on their livelihood. These incidents have also created a deep sense of fear among the children of the vendors, who are witnessing the hostility and uncertainty surrounding their families.

Request the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh @SukhuSukhvinder Ji; to intervene urgently, ensure an impartial inquiry, and direct the administration to prevent any form of discriminatory treatment. Immediate action is essential to safeguard the rights, dignity, and security of Kashmiri traders and their families, who have been peacefully conducting their business in the state for years.

Suicide bombing is unequivocally haram in Islam. It is a double crime; taking one’s own life and killing innocent people, both explicitly forbidden in the Qur’an. No grievance, conviction, or political justification can legitimise such an act. Islam allows no targeting of civilians under any circumstance, and even in war it prohibits harm to non-combatants. The remarks made in the viral video by Kashmiri Student are deeply misguided, contradict Islamic teachings, and promote a dangerous mindset. Such extremist narratives must be condemned clearly, countered responsibly, and rejected collectively for the sake of truth, justice, and the sanctity of human life.

Three bodies, which had initially been transported in load carriers, were stopped immediately and airlifted with dignity via Chandigarh Airport today after we raised the matter with Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena sb. late evening yesterday. They have been laid to rest at their ancestral place with full dignity. The entire transportation and associated expenditure were borne by the Himachal Pradesh Government led by CM @SukhuSukhvinder Ji. How astonishingly calm Education Minister Sakina Itoo Ji appears while admitting that her own secretary altered her proposal on FAT Schools without her knowledge or consent. If this is true, it raises a fundamental question; what moral right does this Minister have to continue in office? What is the purpose of being in office if your own secretary openly defies you, issues orders in your name without your approval, and yet you stand helpless, unable to hold him accountable? This is a complete collapse of authority. A secretary is not above the Minister; he works under the Minister and is answerable for every omission and commission. If the Secretary of the School Education Department can brazenly bypass the Minister and alter proposals, then two conclusions are inevitable; either the Minister is complicit, or she has lost control over her own department. Both scenarios are equally damning.

The Secretary must face a thorough inquiry for unauthorized actions, and suspension or strict penalties should follow under the 1971 rules. But the bigger question remains; why is the Minister silent? Why is she shielding the Secretary instead of demanding accountability? Her silence amounts to endorsement. This episode not only exposes the rot in the School Education Department but also the weakness of Minister Sakina Itoo’s leadership. A Minister who cannot rein in her own secretary has no business lecturing the public about governance. If she cannot safeguard her own authority, how can she safeguard the future of our children?
