UPDATE, November 2, 12:45 P.M. – The suspect in this case is identified as Todd Michael Donovan, 53 years old, of Lenexa.
The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office has charged Donovan with two counts of
First-Degree Murder. The deceased victims are related to Donovan.
This case remains under investigation.
On November 1, at approximately 8:20 P.M., our officers responded on the report of an armed disturbance at a home in the 7900 block of Hallet. As officers arrived, they heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of the residence.
Lenexa officers spoke on the phone with the individual suspected of firing shots, an adult male, and learned he was inside his residence on Hallet. The male refused to comply with officer’s requests to come outside peacefully and the Lenexa Tactical Team and crisis negotiators responded on the barricade operation. Negotiators spoke with the male for nearly two hours before he discontinued dialogue.
At approximately 1:50 A.M., members of the Lenexa Tactical Team entered the residence and took custody of the male suspect. That suspect was taken to an area hospital on a possible overdose.
Officers located two individuals deceased inside the residence, an adult female and adult male. The preliminary investigation indicates that both deceased individuals were shot. As part of this investigation, it was also learned that a neighbors dog was shot and killed around the same time that officers responded on the initial call.
This case remains under investigation with the assistance of Lenexa detectives and members of the Johnson County Crime Lab.
Members of the Shawnee Police Department, Olathe Police Department, and Johnson County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist in the initial barricade operation.

The sun has set for the last time at our police headquarters on 87th Street. We think fondly of the many memories made here and are grateful for all those who served this community faithfully through the years.
Today ushers in a new era as we open our new headquarters at the Lenexa Justice Center, which is located at 17371 Prairie Star Parkway. That is approximately 1/4 mile west of 95th Street and Renner Blvd. All police and municipal court operations are now taking place there and our station on 87th Street is permanently closed.
We'll have more info to share about the new Lenexa Justice Center soon.

You Drink, You Drive, You Lose! From now through Labor Day, we are joining agencies across Kansas in cracking down on impaired driving.
We are of course always on the lookout for drunk drivers, but this state-funded grant provides for extra patrols to specifically target potentially impaired drivers. These extra patrols do not interfere in any way with our regular patrols.
Call a friend, ride-share, walk, stay the night...just don't drink & drive. Your life could depend on it.
Please avoid the area near W.135th and Nall due to a watermain break (westbound). Westbound lanes are closed until further notice. Johnson County WaterOne has been notified.
