Twenty-five years ago, America was attacked.

2,977 lives were lost. At the Pentagon, 184 never made it home.

But from that terrible day came an extraordinary response.

Americans embraced the challenge, and a generation of young men and women answered the call to serve.

As Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Caine reflected earlier this week: “They saw the chance to serve something greater than themselves, knowing full well that they were signing up to go into combat.”

Twenty-five years later, we remember those we lost, honor the families who carry their absence, and recognize the courage of all who answered the call.

We remember. We honor. We serve.

☑️ @usairforce C-17 Globemaster cargo aircraft are delivering a U.S. Marine Combat Logistics Company that will bring heavy equipment, engineering assets, water purification capabilities, and more.

☑️ Air Force C-17s and C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft continue airlift support.

☑️ The Contingency Response Element (CRE) and a U.S. military Airfield Assessment Team are assisting the Venezuelan government, local aviation authorities, and the U.S. interagency response team with safely expanding the flow of inbound and outbound air traffic at key airports near the epicenter.

☑️ @USMC MV-22 Ospreys continue moving personnel and assistance across the nation.

☑️ The @USNavy's USS Fort Lauderdale is at the Port of La Guaira delivering critically needed supplies and equipment.

☑️ U.S. Marine Corps UH-1Y Venom helicopters are supporting aerial assessments.

Today, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine joined the nation in honoring retired Army Maj. Nicholas Dockery, retired Marine Corps Maj. James Capers Jr. and posthumously to Marine Corps Col. John W. Ripley.

Their example inspires the Joint Force and reflects the very best of our Armed Forces.

Today, at the New York Military Entrance Processing Station, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine administered the oath of enlistment to more than a dozen of America’s newest service members.

Gen. Caine thanked them for stepping forward to serve and defend the United States to be part of something greater than themselves, and recognized the families, mentors, and communities who helped them reach this moment.

The future Joint Force is stronger because of Americans like these.

#SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan met with Army Corps General, Gen. Roberto Legrá Sotolongo, First Deputy Minister of the Chief of the General Staff, and other senior leaders from the Cuban military today at the perimeter of Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for a brief exchange on operational security matters. Gen. Donovan also led a perimeter security assessment of the naval base and discussed force protection, safety of service members and their families, and operational readiness with base officials.
