I don’t often recommend travelling to locations solely for a culinary experience…

Maybe this one is because my grandson is visiting & he’s a dosa fanatic.

But I have to say, I’d love to be able to teleport the family to ‘Chutney Maami’ for grabbing this Sunday bite together.

Or perhaps Swiggy or Zomato could start an inter-state drone delivery service…(yes, yes, I know the Dosa will wilt.. but who knows?)

An interesting coincidence. When Pallava Mahendravarman was ruling in Kanchi (600-630 CE) another king with the same name was ruling in Sa Kaeo in Thailand. He was also a follower of Saivism and most importantly he created a reservoir named ‘Sankara Tatakam’ in Sa Kaeo

The Sanskrit inscription of the King near the reservoir in Pallava Grantha, goes like this

Ya śśrī mahendra va rmme ti
ma he ndra i va vi śru ta
sa śa ngka ra ta ṭā kā khya
ñca khā ne ma ñja lā śa ya m

Meaning, “the King known as the illustrious Mahendra Varman famous like Mahendra (Indra) created the reservoir of water named Sankara Taraka”

This is another evidence of the links Pallava dynasty had with the south east Asia

Every balloon released into the sky eventually returns to Earth. What begins as a celebratory gesture becomes a deadly threat to wildlife. Stop the practice.

Floating tributes are often intended to mark personal milestones, such as a wedding or graduation, or to announce something notable, such as a gender reveal. In time the balloons deflate or burst. They scatter hazardous fragments across forests, rivers, and oceans.

Marine and land animals frequently mistake this colorful debris for food, with devastating results. A landmark study of 1,733 seabirds found that balloons are the single most lethal type of debris they swallow. Because the soft, rubbery material easily contorts and blocks the gut, balloon fragments are 32 times more likely to kill a seabird than hard plastic debris such as straws or toy pieces.

Beyond ingestion, the ribbons and strings attached to balloons create immediate danger. They wrap around wings, beaks, and legs, trapping animals and causing them to starve. Even balloons marketed as biodegradable latex can remain intact for months in freshwater and saltwater. Metallic foil balloons last indefinitely and can cause utility blackouts and fires if they contact power lines.

Fortunately, celebrating and honoring loved ones does not require leaving a toxic trail. Safer, sustainable alternatives exist. Planting native wildflower gardens, blowing bubbles, or lighting reusable candles allow communities to mark meaningful moments while protecting local ecosystems.
